Investing Into Steemit Not Just Steem!

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

One of the things that I feel needs to be expressed is the concept of "Investing into Steemit and not just Steem or SBD for that matter too".

Most of you know that my wife @sylviamiller and I @jackmiller administer this family page of ours. Many who have scrolled through the posts here have seen me write about our goals and visions as far as this "family page" and our family goals are concerned.

What I haven't posted about here is how we as a family have all pow wowed about Steemit many a time. My wife and I seem to agree that this is something that I am "the head of" in many ways, mainly because of the fact that English is my native language, which means that I am responsible for a lot more than just writing posts for myself. It includes a fair bit of "red penning" posts that my wife puts together. Although I have to admit that this has become practically nothing as time moves along, her posts are practically all good to go with the occasional typical grammar correction here and there. Little things like using the right tense for a word and so on, nothing major. Steemit has really helped her progress with her English skills. So in some way Steemit has already helped us out more than what most people could imagine.

Our eldest son @chrismiller, well, he is 19 years old and he has his own vision in life. Many a time I may or may not agree with him, but in reality he is moving along and learning a lot of things in life as every young person at that age. I don't hold it against him when we don't meet eye to eye. Such is life!
At one stage he even gave up on Steemit, then when Steem jumped to like $7 US I showed him the figures and he saw that it was worth trying again. One of the things that bugs him is again the fact that he grew up abroad and English is in fact his second language. So I do help out when possible. The time zone differences get in the way of this, plus the fact that he is working practically all day every day. There is only so much that I can do and I can't change the obstacles that sometimes get in the way of me helping him out. In any case, no matter what some may think, I am proud of him and am glad that he has realized the fact that he can work in different ways to make an extra buck or two. Likewise he understood that this to us is a lot more than just "blogging" or making an extra buck. So it makes me a lot more happier, the fact that he is involved with something that his mum and I are doing as a family. I'm not sure if I have the words to describe what I wish to say here, but we have something to do and talk about, which means a lot more than a few extra bucks! Maybe that is the simplest way of putting it.

Getting the family together on any project is a fairly hard thing to do at times. Might be easier for some, may be harder for others, in our case with me being overseas and my wife and kids being back home in Australia, along with the fact that we are practically starting life from scratch in some ways makes everything we do a big challenge.

So, Steemit is actually one of the very few things on this planet that is available to us to work and do as a family. Luckily it is all internet and blockchain based so it really became a part of our lives at the right moment.

When I mentioned "investing into Steemit" many may have thought that I was talking about money or blogging.

NO.

I was talking about investing yourselves as people.

WHY?

Well as you can see in this post it really has a lot to give back to us as people. We invest a little bit of and from ourselves and the rewards are huge.

Again, I'm not referring to the monetary rewards, I am talking about the things that no money on this planet can buy.

Sometimes I feel that I don't have the vocab to express myself here as effectively as I would like to. However, i do say things as I see them and in this case I truly believe that anyone reading this post can appreciate what I am saying.

Steemit has become a very important part of our lives as a family, from our youngest child who always wants to be in his mums posts, to our two daughters who actually every now and then ask their mum to post about what they did and their achievements in school, to our eldest son who has realized that this is one way we can have something in common.

As a husband and a dad, what more can I ever ask for?

I shall end this post right here as anything else that I write shall be repeating the above and I feel that I have shown how Steemit can be much much more that just a blogging platform.

I appreciate your time and hope that you too can make Steemit into a lot more than just a Crypto Blogging site for you too. It really is worth the effort that no words can describe.

Yours sincerely on behalf of our entire family

Jack

You're a great Steemit family Jack.
There are some awesome Steemit families now....
@ausbitbank 's & @lyndsaybowes 's to mention just two, who like yourselves have a big family presence adding to this wonderful platform.
Steem on @millers

I think it´s very important to get young people on the blockchain and with STEEM introduce them to the bigger picture and values of blockchain technology, e.g. decentralization, earning potential through your passion etc.
I´m not so attached to Steemit itself, since it may become obsolete with better and SMT-powered Apps on the STEEM blockchain. For me, everything that helps to grow the STEEM blockchain is helpful, and for now its Steemit (which may change in the near future)

Excellent publication, I think I understand what you are trying to say about investing, but not money, but something about us, because here I have been able to find really interesting people, who have something to share with all of us, and who have different culture and customs, with different characteristics, but that we also managed to communicate, is really quite interesting. Personally, it has also helped me improve English a little, or not? Judge my English, haha. Upvote! Thank you very much for sharing!

I totally agree Jack. This Steemit thing feels more like a family than a 'Platform' It's great we can make connections with real people. And I look forward to grabbing a beer with you when you make it back to Australia.

The meetups are becoming a little more regular now and yes you are missing out ;-)

PS: I don't even think of Steemit as a crypto blogging site anymore, it's just a place to hang out.

happy steemit family ........ best of luck @millers..
go ahead

Its great to see a family come together like yours on the platform of steemit. You are doing a wonderful job steering everyone in the steemit direction. I am indeed learning a lot from this! Thanks for this article.

This post and your experience made me think!
I´m posting everyday and offering good content to the community on a daily bases, but am I investing in Steemit?? - You said that we should give more of ourselves to this platform to see more rewards, that´s what I´m going to try from now on, I will give more of me to the community and receive back from people like you! (rewards are not only money :D)

good post
