The 111 Content Rule: What it is, Why it's Important When Writing with Goals in Mind

"Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way." -- Edward de Bono

I don't like blindly following the rules, but some rules are created for a very good reason. Although writing is a creative process, if we have goals for the pieces we write, which you always should if writing for pay (which you are here on Steemit!), there are some steps that need to be taken in order to accomplish those goals. If you want 100 people to read and love what you've written and take some kind of action, like visiting a website or purchasing a product, then you need to appeal to them. This doesn't happen by chance.

As readers, we have short attention spans, picky preferences, and our own goals, even if subconscious that we need to meet in order to read and enjoy a piece of content. As a writer, I recommend implementing the 111 rule into your writing.

What is The 111 Content Rule?

There are three parts to the 111 content rule, and they should be applied to each piece of content you write with a business goal in mind (for a product, service, brand, etc.). They are:

1. You have a single defined goal

Ex: Get my readers to sign up for a cryptocurrency airdrop using my referral code.

2. The article promotes or sells just one product or service

Ex: There is a clear explanation of the cryptocurrency, it's the only one mentioned, and it explains how to take advantage of the offer.

3. The article targets just on specific target market (one type of person)

Ex: There is a specific person this post is written for -- the person who would be most likely to take advantage of this offer. This could be an ERC20-compatible wallet holder who participates in every airdrop. Think about what they look for, why they wouldn't participate, etc., and use this to your advantage when explaining why you think they would benefit from participating.

This rule helps you stay laser-focused and allows the audience to understand what action you want them to take. If you’re not focused in what you’re promoting or selling, even if that is you (trying to build your own brand), your audience won’t know what to do next.

Action Tip: Before you write your next blog post or create your next ad campaign, outline your one goal, your one product or service you’ll promote, and your one specific target market.

This post was helpful to me. The 111 rule should probably be implemented in life as well as writing. I will try to use it.

Thank you! I agree!
