Society is Broken, But Here is How Steemit Can Help.steemCreated with Sketch.

Society is broken.

We can all sit in our nice warm homes and pretend that everything is fine and dandy, but in reality it's far from OK.
I believe we are mostly aware of the fact
but we just brush it under the carpet as if it's not there, as if it's not our problem to fix.

The streets don't lie.

If you take a close look in any big town or city you will see them, the homeless wondering aimlessly in no particular direction with their life's possessions in one bag,
the junkies with their skinny pale faces, nervous twitches and wide eye's looking for their next hit or victim, the alcoholics usually in groups
stumbling over one another and shouting at passers by.
even in the supposedly nicer parts of town you have the groups of bored teenagers hanging around drinking and smoking whatever they can get their hand on, whilst watching
their friends doing burn out's in the car park, and then of course if you go out on a Friday or Saturday night around the time the clubs close,
you will witness the carnage and destruction caused by drunken savages, who during the week are model citizens,
but by Friday are so tired of the 9to5 and following the rules that they just want to get shit faced and completely lose the plot.

What do i know?

By now you are probably thinking "who is this guy, and what gives him the right to sit there on his high horse"
but that's the thing you see, I have been that homeless guy, that junkie, that board teenager, that drunken savage, I have been to all these places and
made it out alive, so that kind of gives me, not only the right but the inside knowledge of whats its like to be there, and an understanding of how we as a society have ended up like this.

The reason most of us walk past these people that are in such desperate need of help is that we have no sense of community, we believe it's someone else's problem
and as long as we keep thinking like this the problem will never go away.

If it's in YOUR town, then it IS your problem, it affects YOU, and if the government are not doing anything about then it's OUR responsibility.

Everybody goes through some kind of difficulties in their life, but sometimes all it takes is a little helping hand and hay presto!
It's the lack of love and community that put these people there, so all they need is a little love and a sense of belonging to bring them back.
That's all it took for me to get myself out of some of the deepest, darkest, loneliest corners of society, one act of random kindness helped me on my road to recovery.

How can steemit help?

I see it so much on steemit, this sense of belonging to a community, people helping one another, guiding eachother
so all we need to do is take this community spirit from the web to the streets
and start helping the people who are not lucky enough to be part of the steemit community.
All it takes is a random act of kindness to make someone's day, to let them know they are not alone.
It can be as little as giving some food, or just a hug, for instance the other day I saw a guy at the campsite we are staying at, he was going through the bins looking for cans and bottles to cash in, you could tell he felt ashamed, so I went up and gave him our bag of cans we had been saving, I wish you could have seen his face light up, and I'm not lying it brought tears to his eyes, tears of joy. Every little helps.
Next time don't just walk past, do something,
and don't forget to make a post about it to encourage others to do the same.

Bro this is exectly what I was thinking yesterday when I met this homeless guy: Check out the first part of my post here

Well said, man. I hope that this message makes a real difference.

If it makes one person go out and help someone, then it has been a success

Very true, The externalisation of our problems leads to greater and greater problems. Tme to take respsonsibility for ourselves and others around us.

Great comment @perceptualflaws
You seem to have a good perspective to this problem we all face.

Thanks @markwhittam It's something I've been thinking about for a while so it's great to read posts like yours. In many ways society has devalued compassion and externalised care, little understanding that every lost soul is a reflection of a sickness within civilisation itself. If the world has any hope of changing we each need to start by changing ourselves and casting aside many of the preconceptions that have been bred into us since birth.

Great comment, you really hit the nail on the head there. every lost soul is a reflection of a sickness within civilisation itself.
Thank you @perceptualflaws

So true! Well said :)
Thank you @innervision2017

You can spark that change...I can spark that change...we ALL can spark that change!

Something needs to be done. We can't pretend anymore. It's up to us.
Thanks for the interaction

In rural western New Hampshire most people are employed, but under employed. The local soup kitchen feeds 100 a night.
We have land, have a growing garden, and last year were able to contribute over 1,000 lbs of organic fruits (apples) and veggies. We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful place to live and work the land and have the ability to contribute this way.

This is great, we have the ability to feed and look after ourselves, but that's not how the governments want it. In some places it's illegal to grow your own food,
Thanks for the feedback @bchick

good message

welcome dear.
plz have a look at my introductory blog.

this is a lovely post.. Random acts of kindness make the world such a magical place! I am one of those randomly kind folk that just do really nice things for people sometimes for no apparent reason.. Anyone who does these things for others knows how GOOD it feel even afterwards and for some time.. We get to share in the joy that we create when we honour our fellow people.

I wrote an interesting article that touches on a similar theme but tried to understand what is at the core of many peoples problems. Check it out, it's a nice read ;-)
