How To Choose Your Steemit Topics?

Passion Overrated?

I sometimes hear entrepreneurs and public speakers tell a full crowd that you don't need to be passionate about what you're doing as long as you're good at it. Well, that may be true for sales, however if you're going to write blog posts on a website like steemit, you better be passionate about what your topics. You're naturally going to face a lot of moments where a post you though would earn you some STEEM, on which you worked for hours, turns out to be a flop and paying 2 cents. In that case, when you write about something you're passionate about at least you had fun doing so.

Apart from that I feel we need the enthusiasm here on steemit that comes from someone who is talking about their passion. The passion that I engage here on steemit is relatively broad: I feel passionate to help people get a better life. Therefore my topics may sometimes seem to be all over the place. They do however always carry a message that is related to self-development or self-improvement.

Keywords and Search Tags

If you've ever searched for a 'Get Rich Online' program most of them will advise you to look at keywords. What is it that most people search for? Well guess what. The internet is like any other market ruled by demand and supply. This means that, unless if you are incredible lucky or way ahead of the curve, by the time millions of people are searching for specific keywords, thousands of others have been putting in time and effort to provide a solution. Therefore it may sometimes be way more beneficial to you to select a niche, and be a big fish in a little pond, than a small fish in a big ocean.

Knowledge

How about instead of searching for keywords you spread a message surrounding something you are knowledgeable about? You don't have to be an expert in your field, but it wouldn't harm to at least have some proper experience before sharing your thoughts and opinions about a topic.

Stay True to Yourself

Hey, the bottom line is this: if you talk about what you love, what you're passionate about and what is dear to you, you will do the best you can. And if you talk about other stuff you simply will not be able to deliver. I truly care about enriching people's lives, and if you don't you can try and compete with me, but one day or the next you're going to be crushed. Therefore if you love antique model trains, write steem articles about them, instead of trying to figure out what the vast majority of people want to read, simply write what you want to share. This way, at least you're doing something you love, and we will notice.

I would rather listen to somebody speaking about a topic with full passion for 2 hours, even when the topic is of no interest to me than having to listen to someone talk for 10 minutes about something they hate.

Spot on @markdeheide

Thanks @micscrypt! :) yeah and also when we face difficulties or don't see result we expected. It's really hard to stay motivated if we have to power through whilst doing something we don't fully support. :)

That's why we all need to do something we love to stay motivated in tough times.

Yes it is necessary to choose subjects
Totally agree with this post...Help and support each other and the world as a whole--a better place...

@markdeheide you forgot to mention one has to budget for bid-bots no matter how good the topic you chose is.

Steemit life.

@oladokun then I could have also mentioned camera-setup, audio quality, thumbnail importance etc. My goal with this post is ONLY to tell you to pick topics you love and are knowledgeable about, not a full-on guide on how to steem like a boss ;)

Tks for your post!

You're welcome @vannth10594 :)

Thanks for putting together these helpful tips, im always looking for ways to improve my writing and reach on steemit. One question I have is the promote option worth it? Or is it better to go for upvotes via these bots. Havn't used either option but im curious as to what benefit i can get out of it

@chekohler, well nowadays both are very over-valued. I only use the minnow-booster bot now because it guarantees a profit.

Thanks ill do some research and then give minnow booster a shot

I agree you with you, apart from the fun, its something you need not struggle in making your post because the drive comes from inside.

Thanks so much for this, it's inspiring.

thanks @cherylsonty I'm glad to hear you agree. We can offer so much to our followers if what we share comes from within! :)

I agree writing about what interests you and you are knowledgable is best.

SO many people just write about whats trendy - on here its crypto - and alot of them dont know enough to be writing about this, or arent genuinly interested.

For me I love music, memes, and technology so just mainly blog about those.

Also the more people that post about something the harder it is to stand out!

Exactly @conrad if everybody posts about the same thing, how are you making sure you stand out? What is different about your posts compared to others? Whereas if you talk from true passion the difference is that you yourself add that sparkle ;)

Hey man. I've just found you today on Steemit but I really like your energy. Going to read through most of your blog posts as they seem really on point, positive and well presented. Kudos!

Thanks @kingofbristol very happy to have you here!

Great article, thanks for this. Very useful for a new starter like myself.

Thanks @ngm2219 maybe you like my other articles as well! :)
