The results are in: Don't use the Steemit WordPress Plugins if SEO is important to you
I have been using the wonderful WordPress plugin from @howo and @fredrikaa and I will continue to use it, but until the Canonical situation is fixed, a lot of my posts will have to remain on my site and not be syndicated.
Check out my results above - my Steemit article, published on my site and syndicated to Steemit, is outranking the original article due to the Canonical tag inserted into the Steemit version claiming it is the original, even though it is not. Above is my way older article about the original printer.
What we need
- In API-posted articles we need to be able to set the Canonical tag to the URL of our choice, be able to set no-follow/no-index/etc, or at least not have it added at all
Thank you for taking the time to test this out and giving your feedback. We're fully aware that this will be a barrier to many larger bloggers and content creators. Imo, the steemit rewards will still far outweigh the seo penalties to small and some medium sized blogs, but this is certainly one of the top things we would like to see addressed to allow further growth of STEEM implementation tools for other websites.
Ideally, people should be able to use the blockchain for their creative content and be completely indifferent as to whether or not it is also displayed elsewhere, and instead see the extra front ends that display their content as a pro rather than a con since it allows more people to see their posts and people should be able to engage with it by "logging in with STEEM" so that to the readers you wouldn't really know what website people are engaging from, only that they engage with it.
100% agreed :)
I will still keep using your awesome plugin, just have to be careful for now to not make Steemit outrank my actual site that pays the real bills :)
Thank you for this article

What's this canonical situation? Is this unique to Wordpress?
