Steemit: Make Steem Dollars Practical (and Sustaining this Ecosystem)

in #steemit7 years ago

Ah the news and the media from the Internet, such horrific announcement yet looming again and again from financial headlines to latest email newsletters.

You get red alerts of a potential financial meltdown, Germany’s about to lose one of its airline services, or even more unemployment rate rising across the globe, just buzzing through cables into our screen of all sizes for our consumption.

People start jumping into the bandwagon of hoarding BTC aside either for the sake of the latest potential fork that could be happening in 25 October for the possible of a new coin’s birth (Bitcoin Gold), causing alt coin values to drop like rocks; or succumbing to the fear of the fiat currency is just about to go through an ultimate meltdown anytime.

I even have my great friends here and in the Real World telling me how much they are earning in crypto-currencies; but have you truly thought how it should really work in the real world? Or is it just another “item” for you to trade to make more money out of it?

As I learned from the economy, paper money is useless if it is not being used practically; and I also agree that this principle applies the same for crypto currency.

Not all of us have the money to just set it aside to make more money. Sooner or later if these crypto currencies are not practically used, it will also become obsolete and it is nothing but a bunch of wasteful 1s and 0s floating in the internet.

“Monopoly game make believe money” as the government will try to scare us.

So how, especially for Steemit, can we make full use of its potential, besides exchanging it into BTC to be transferred into the debit card and be used in the real world?

Mind you, these companies that adopted these conversion services are buying crypto from us. Which means if they ever think it is useless our crypto currency will die off eventually as well.

With the effort of #teammalaysia group of awesome people who are like-minded like me who believe in the future of crypto currency, I managed to do an internal exchange with @cikxaijen as she needed to power up her STEEMit account; and I so happened to have some and needed to help my parents to buy some groceries yet I ran out of cash because I had to spend 150 USD to fix my car.

It became a great opportunity to exercise our trust for each other to conduct this exchange.

She’s happy that she could bypass all the exchange fees getting extra STEEM for her account, and I am happy to get this much grocery that could last my parents at least until the end of the year for certain items in this picture and lighten some of my burden in spending.

43 SBD worth of groceries bought for my parents

Ultimately, it is a win-win situation for us

So how about you? Do you have enough confidence in Steemit that this will keep going on and strong enough to start making it practical and useful in everyday life?

Feel free to share it here with me if you too have started making this happen in your region!

Thank You for Your Time
