Giving Up Facebook For Good

Facebook will be taken down by Steemit

Steemit has really been a breath of fresh air in terms of social media.

For a long time I have just not been engaging on Facebook. I was tired of the crazy amount of ads, which have increased exponentially over time. I was exhausted with the endless scrolling, and of the snapshots of "friends" lives without really having any meaningful contact of any kind. I can't remember the last time I had a conversation with someone on Facebook, this in spite of the fact that I have 700+ friends there.

Thank god for Steemit. It has a real community feel to it. Not that I was looking for a new social media addiction, but I seem to have found one! This is a great crypto space, and while it still needs some polishing to reach its full potential this project really has a bright future., and it feels special to be in on the ground floor!

Although, I do worry about when Steemit has millions of users will it still be so cool? Is it the fate of all social media to become a victim of its own success? Do you think that Facebook will steal Steemit's self-monetization idea? What has your experience on Steemit been?

If I could upvote you twice, I would. Steemit will liberate us all from being data slaves to centralized social media platforms.

This is just the beginning. Facebook was super clean and simple when it started. It didn't have news feeds or any of the other features it has today. The hope is that Steemit evolves and creates ways to manage its various ecosystems so communities can be free to fragment and decentralize without splitting off completely.

Hope to see you still posting in a few years man.

Thanks for the comment! Yeah I remember the early days on FB, it was kind of cool back then had that "this is new and cool feel". I am certainly keen to see the evolution of Steemit and I suspect I will be here in a few years too!

Like you and @gimperion said, Facebook's initial popularity was because it used to be genuine. I think that's where Facebook completely lost its value. Nowadays everyone is falling for fake viral videos made by advertisers and paid-for featured news stories. All of its users' private information is being sold and manipulated to be used against them in a vicious cycle that rewards no one but the fatcats running the show. What a toxic environment!!

A bit of a rant there but hey, that's why we're here. Steemit exists because we're all fed up with that system. Totally hopeful for the future of Steem for that reason. :)

That was a good rant though! Agreed! It is a toxic environment which is why I feel like I stopped wanting to participate.

Wow someone who completely understands. This is exactly how I have felt for about a year. Glad to see someone feels the same way! <3 @larksongbird

It is a movement

nice post, thanks for sharing!!

FB might start monetization if they start losing people. Could they create their own crytocurrency? They would have a powerful way to advertise it.

Nah, people want something new I say :)

Yeah, I hope so, but old habits die hard too

I feel like Steemit will probably replace Medium before it replaces Facebook or even Reddit. The way the site is laid out feels like a better blogging platform.

It would be awesome if in the future though Steemit begins to integrate more social media features like how LinkedIn is both a social network and a blogging platform.

Yes, I am really keen to see some upgrades to the overall layout and functionality of the site

One good thing about steemit is it is bringing out the latent deposit of ideas in people. Just in a short while it will spread like wildfire, maybe we are gonna by Facebook. ☺☺. Sounds great

That is a good point!

Nice little read Lark, thanks for sharing. I feel the same, Steemit is a godsend for me. I never found the appeal of FB, but this place is something else!

It sounds like you have great hopes for this platform. Steem is going cheap on Pol if you´re interested ;-)

Trying to grab some coins today, but my BTC is stuck in transit from Bitstamp :(

Nice, but it looks like sub 50 might still be around tomorrow, fingers crossed ;-)

Hahaha, I love how you put that:

Is it the fate of all social media to become a victim of its own success?

We live in a novelty driven world, so I guess that to be the end result of any kind of successful thing out there.
Everything has it's time of Birth, it's time of Growth, it's time for peak Success and then it will eventually become too mainstream to be cool. And then it's time for the Death process, independently of how slow that process is.

Anyway, really nice post! Thanks.

Thanks for reading and your support
