Value of SteemitsteemCreated with Sketch.

What is it really?

So looking at a few exchanges this morning, I noticed they were all "Temporarily Disabled".

I know that currently Steemit is going through some "Node maintenance in progress. You may notice some features missing until it is complete."

But this has been a prolonged event and not the only issue.

Several times in the past, even without the Node Maintenance in progress, exchanges suspend Steem. This makes Steem less liquid and this is very frequent. You do not see suspensions of LTC, BTC, or other currencies suspended, or in cases like ETH, not suspended as often or long as Steem seems to be at times.

So what value is that if you need it quickly.

Or you want to trade to build and re-invest in the Steemit platform and Steem?

Now we would expect certain things like this on a "BETA" version, but the BETA thing has been going on from the beginning and does not seem to have an end. I do not know if this is one of the issues, or an issue at all as I am not a tech savvy user... but there needs to be (in my pinion) a more stable interchange with the exchanges.

Missing Opportunity

I really think Steem would gain so many more users that were tech savvy, blockchainers, if they knew Steem could be more fungible (being of such nature or kind as to be freely exchangeable or replaceable, in whole or in part, for another of like nature or kind.)

As the cryptos gain market share and mass adoption, it would (again in my non tech savvy opinion), be vastly beneficial for the platform and underlying currency, to become far more fungible.

It seems to have the other qualities needed like; a medium of exchange; a unit of account; a store of value, etc. so let's look further.

1. Generally Accepted - OK.... In the exchanges we have this a bit, but not as much as needed and not as reliable as it should be.
2. Durable - The quality or value does not deteriorate over time, well this one is a tough one for any crypto as the blockchain is so new.
3. Divisible - This is OK for Steem, although it may need a few more decimals if the prices really soars in the future.
4. Stable & Consistent - Whereas the value does not fluctuate substantially with time... hmmm we may never see this quantifier in the cryptos.
5. Transportable - It is easy to bring with you, sorry Steem is not great at this, too long to access and no real speed in any transaction making it more useless to even transport.
6. Scarce - Uh yeah... NO, is there even a ceiling on Steem?
7. Easily recognizable - People have heard of it andhave faith it is really real, well not bad... ut Steem could use some work here.
8. Difficult to Counterfeit - I would say that Steem is good here as there are far more worthy cryptos to counterfeit if even possible (maybe it is with ETC, BCH, Etc.)..
9. Elasticity - Being able to expand or contract as needed within the eco-structure... I think Steem has this quality.
10. Economical - The cost to produce must be less than its value... I think we could all say it was, but this quality is not equal enough in time to value for all users
11. Inherently Valuable - A money should have use besides its use as a money to have it intrinsic value... it wouldbe if it were more fungible.
12. Long history of acceptance - A history of acceptance (longer is better) this is up in the air now as the crypto-shere is so new, but I believe Steem is accepted in most crypto users minds.
13. Supervised - The currency is tracked to avoid economic catastrophes... I feel fine about this as we have a very stellar set of minds on Steemit that are on constant watch.

So what do you think?

What value do you place on Steem as compared to some of the other Cryptos out there... and

Does Steem need to become more fungible?

For me Steem should have much more value. At least $ 25 as it is one of the few crypto projects that really works.

As a new member of the community, this concept is a little to advance for me but it gives me something to think looking forward to this community. Right now , for me is about reading and learning about crypto-currencies in general, and having fun while I might get some for my time.
I might now consider the option to look at it as an investment to the future as well.

It is a path many here are following...but remember as far behind as you think you may be, you are still in the innovation curve. Maybe next year we will see the early adopter stage, followed by mass adoption. These two stages will be explosive growth.. so you have time, enjoy the ride!

well it surely has huge potential but big exchanges like poloniex has made it worse :( and that hurts

The potential I believe is still there, but the lack of frangibility is not... in the blockchain world that is imperative.

Given the interesting concept of valuable content, I think Steem will become even more powerful and valuable in the near future - at least I hope so.

We all hope so, however the value of content here (in my opinion), is still free for anyone to read without stake in the game. If it was private member only maybe the values would rise. I do not know just thinking on this point.

I like

Great advice and nice topic. good work sir.

No advise given, just questions.

Valuable information. 100% like and resteem

Thanks for the resteem.

@kyusho - Sire, STEEM is under valued. It will be at 5-6 USD range at this point. Hope it might rise soon Sire. We can enjoy the profit. I'm really like your work. Therefore, I wish to ReSteem your post Sire.

Yes it should be and maybe beyond, but I believe the questions and instabilities mentioned above is what is preventing it from being so.

nice post. it helps alot to a newbie like me..thank you

You know the adoption is increasing here and it is helping many people, but for it to be even more so it needs to address some key points above.

nice :)

Thank you.
