Don't Assume That Grammatical Mistakes or Appearance Make A Post Less Reliable
If someone suggested that those who carry imperfections in their appearance at less reliable, in all likelihood, you would laugh at them. As we all know, the biggest scoundrels in our world wear nice attires, take care their of their looks and try to look their best, even though they don't have the best intentions.
I am much the same when I write posts for Steemit. I am sloppy and imperfect. It takes me about 15 minutes to pop one and I do it because I have random thoughts circulating in my mind. I don't care who reads it really and I don't care about anyone's opinion. I am just glad to get the thought out and hopefully get some gambling money to "invest in the future of blockchain".... with shitcoins.
I am not an intellectual nor an academic even though I have worked in academia and read a lot of books. I am sloppy in my writing because perfection is dreadful for my creative process. It takes the fun away. I used to do the same when I used to paint. When I caught myself going over the details like an insecure lady in front of the mirror trying to make others happy, I knew that I was not writing for myself but for some abstract/assumed perception of others. I was being a douche for the sake of approval and maybe a few more upvotes. Fuck that.
I wouldn't be able to write everyday if my thought process involved satisfying my audunce. Most of you are idiots anyway. If I wanted to do it the "proper way" I would write one post per week and spend a couple of hours on them, like back in college, making sure to tick all the "appropriate" boxes. I do not want to this. For one, I never seem to be able to read "carefully crafted" posts. They bore me to death. I would rather google the subject and find the original post the guy paraphrased from. People aiming for perfection remind me of those people who do a plastic surgery and then another one and then another one in order to fit the whole package together. By the time they are done they look like an alien trying to take over crypto.
If you get caught up in the moment and find yourself attracted to what only looks good then you are going to have a bad time. Crooks and scammers make sure to look their best since it is the best way to lure the idiots. If you find yourself being bothered by typos and grammatical mistakes while ignoring the main theme of the post, then, perhaps you are too deep into the shit mentality already. Life is so much more than keeping appearances.
Perfect 👌
I think it depends on the subject. And the personality of the person. I envy and admire your ability to be so carefree about what you write. A typo or gramatical error shouldn’t affect how the author is viewed as a person or even the credibility of their post. As you said this isn’t “academia”.. nor is it a professional environment.
The only time I’d say that a grammatical error or typo might be detrimental to a post, is when it affects the meaning trying to be conveyed.
So if I ever do offer you a correction please don’t hold it against me haha
A couple of typos or missed commas wouldn't make me just a post harshly. The post above was written pretty well. However, I do think there are people here who should proofread at least one time or work to improve their use of the language they are writing in. I'm NOT talking about this post, but there are some posts here on Steemit that are written with such poor language that they are almost incomprehensible, and that does poor service to the readers and the writer. Also, adding in some subheadings, shorter paragraphs, and bullet points make things easier to read online, so they are bound to keep the attention of even more readers.
yes you are right . main thing is that what you say can understand by other @kyriacos
I'm a grammar nazi myself, but I don't talk about it much, unless somebody isn't saying what I think they want to say. If the meaning of the words doesn't suffer, I still notice most mistakes, but ignore them.
Those who wrote technical manuals under my supervision have seen my other side, though.
I would neck myself if I had to do your job
I only did that for a very short while. Not my thing.
I always enjoy your straigh forward and unapologetic style of writing.
And thats what sometimes people look up to...you are just right that a book sometimes isnt judged by its cover @kyriacos. Thanks so much
I like your point of view. Nobody is perfect. so why we saw a perfect post. Just be natural and do whatever you like. writing is all a bout practice and practice make the man perfect. so keep sharing your nice post. All the best @kyriacos
But don't you think you can play this extra "visibility" and air of extra credibility to your favor to get your ideas out there and help fighting the idiocracy? Instead of letting the well presented idiots get all the audience.
Play along with their rules while you quietly follow your own.
Help Fight Idiocracy?
Fuck no. I am making bank on it. I don't want to make the world better. I want to exploit it.
Never played with the rules nor am I planning in doing so.
Assuming that 99% of the people around me are idiots has served me well so far.
I'm nowhere near as idealistic as I used to be ten years ago, but even from a pragmatic ( or plainly opportunistic) point of view, it is hard to argue that those instances in which you can take advantage of people's ignorance or stupidity significantly offset all the garbage situations and policies forged by the idiocracy that in the end affect us all (unless you are ridiculously rich and powerful, that is).
P.S.
Sometimes your posts here on Steemit remind me of this mini-sketch in Freakazoid:
You start to repeat)))
