Do we need a way to get more views on your posts at steemit?

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I've been writing for almost a month now, I've spent some great time here that I would have otherwise wasted on some regular "social media" platform in vain. Steemit is growing rapidly and everybody is getting at least something out of it. No doubt, steemit is gong to be at the top in few years and a lot of people are already migrating here from everywhere. People are experimenting with everything, I see different patterns coming to surface on steemit.

Although, a lot of people are doing great with this platform and they're also helping newbies in different ways however I've been observing a lot of posts goes to waste maximum 2-3 views on original and rather good contents, why are they getting just a few views(not upvotes) is making me curious.

I mean one can only get upvotes if people are actually able to have a look at what was produced. I've noticed bunch of memes getting more upvotes than well written articles. As far as my personal opinion goes if click-baiting is what works more than well produced article are we actually going to get quality material on steemit or will it end up being just another social media platform just like many others that we already have? Wouldn't it be redundant?

What I want to convey here is that should there be a way that would allow people to actually have a look on the content of the articles instead of quick picture and a very catchy headline? Do we need a new method so that the posts should reach to the eyes of more people? Is there an official method so that we can speak with followers for their feedback without making a post?

I've noticed this too. I think that although there are a lot of people on Steemit who want to create and read original content...there are also just as many who don't. There are way too many people focused on upvoting and gaining followers instead of building a community. If I could count the number of "Great. I followed you. Follow me too." comments, I think I would be rich already. Maybe there could be some quality control added to the system. A minimum word count? I'm not sure if anything can be done at all to be honest, because there will always be people who are just here to make a quick buck and leave.

This has been something i've been looking at, granted i was in countries with randomly crap internet, but when you get blown out by a Cat meme it just feels like a swift kick. IDK if it is just to get more people to buy into steem and force their position to the top or not tho.

Haha I know right!

I just dumped 1 ETH into steem and moving it into power, if my ROI is correct that should have me back to normal in a month or two, if not then i'll just keep trying as I have multi content platform in mind. And if that doesn't work i'll just go buy cats and post pics of them on the daily.

Well, experienced users here on Steemit say minnows need patience - as the time goes by, they'll get more followers. Meantime, did you try Discord or Steemit chat to find users with similar interest as yours?

I've been in touch with a few people on discord but they're mostly interested in their own pervious talks. Well I'm trying to be consistent and being patient but when your days work goes without even acknowledgement it's hard to stay positive and without positivity nothing of worth manifests. If somehow people start noticing our work that would be great!

ha ha i have a post made a couple of days ago stting there with only 1 view or 2 lol i mean it is nothing special but with somefollowers you expect "some" views right? :) well even if you have to take in consideration time differences, catchy titles etc you still have to wait to become at least a dolphin but overall i think it is not bad, i mean think about how facebook started, i remember i had to listen in the news about some british students organizing a strike in some protest sometime 10 years ago and facebook was their tool to effectively do it and apparently go front page with it. Analogically Steemit could follow the same root but it needs that "event" that would exponentially augment the number of its users and thus followers...another thing is to re-upload your own post at a different time if you think it didn't have the views or reaction you desired or expected but i would emphasize to make notice that is a repeat or even better an update of the originally, sometimes we forget little particulars that would make a difference that's why i recommend taking your time posting even though steemit does give you the option to edit your post anytime you want or just add new fresh pertinent infos. In the end i believe being honest and true is the best thing, for example i just received today 0.006 SP without knowing where it came from or how also there is a bot @cheetah which i think is great for catching the "copy paste" warriors and that is why making references to the sources is honest, more accurate and may contribute to attract third parties entity to the whales and thus everybody gains (notice that steemit doesn't have any third advertiser...yet :)) )

Thanks a lot for taking your time out to write this detailed comment, especially about that repurpose thing I didn't know if we could do that, this is a great relief indeed thanks once again :)

@kingyus reply is worth 1 vlog post, awesome bro you guys are rock!

hey :)) thank you very much sir, also adding "#" for references adds value to your post like i would do it right now #awesome lol but you get my point don't abuse, just use well, ...it is an ongoing learning journey @steemit :)) i just love that, forget about the money even though it is an important "rotor in the motor"...it all depends whether you are concentrating on the motor or enjoying the drive and i stop here cause i might go to #saturn with this :)) cheers!!

I agree. I'm still new, only about 17 days in, but I've only had one article really make anything. I don't expect a lot initially though, and it's much better than any other platform, at least for me. I do feel as though I'm more a part of something here, also. I haven't been able to invest any cash yet either, will will most certainly help things along, I assume.

Agreed. There's a lot of disappointment at times. I have gone through this more than once.

Yes! we feel inspired if we get at least a comment and whatnot when posts goes to waste it hurts deeply lol!

In fact, 3 of my posts were listed among the most undervalued posts in my first month on Steemit. It's still the first month.

Good article and so true. We need to form a pact of some sorts to destroy those "Meme" themed posts!

Lol yeah I even gave that a try (as a part of personal experiment) but failed badly. Yes those memes needs to go haha (now meme creators are looking for my address)

Let them look. This is no place for them yet anyway. Be patient and find me on Discord. We will figure something out :D

Hope adding your post to Curie did help you out a bit ;)

Yeah. If its not original content. Dont upvote!

I believe that there is still room for trial and error for a better balance to be reached. In the mean time I will not stop fighting hard to get fat and become a whale :)

Lol we need winters for that!

That also confuses me - posts I think is great get little votes and other one liner weird posts gets a lot - I think it has to do with who sees your post and I guess a bit of luck is also welcome

I am not certain that can be done. Human nature is so shallow. I mean thats why advertising and our current social medias make so much money. We would collectively have to choose to make a point to follow upvote and share content creators or posts that we feel are quality. This is what I have done in my small time on Steemit. Find quality OC and post quality OC (my art)

Good point

Yes I mean people should at least get some more eyes on what they've been writing without a fan base?

Yes but it is hard to make a system like that when there is so much new content every minute.

I mean this is where innovation and creativity comes to the scene, hope somebody read it and come up with a working idea! :)

I've noticed that phenomenon, too. It appears that more people are interested in "seeing" than "reading"...

I'm not much of a photographer (or meme poster, either); I prefer writing. I'm also tired of digging around for people that might be interested in my stuff. It feels kinda... inefficient.

Perhaps being allowed to use more tags (instead of just 5) would help?
