[Steemit] 12 Kick-Butt Reasons Why Steemit Is The #1 Social Network on the PlanetsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

The other day, I was spending time on Steemit and realized something...

I realized that this social network is my all-time favorite place to be on the internet.

Spawning from that thought brought upon another, which was actually a question...

What makes Steemit so great? What exactly is it that gets me excited to be part of Steemit?

Why would a potential outsider look to the inside of Steemit and decide to become part of it?

I then answered my own question as I searched my heart and also looked around at what others were saying and doing on Steemit.

12 reasons popped into my mind and I would like to share them with you today...

For those that don't know me, my name is Ken (@kenmelendez) and I am a STEEM enthusiast with a passion to impact others in new and exciting ways with unique, raw, and life-altering information.

Feel free to upvote, comment, and resteem so that others can see the beauty of Steemit and how being part of this network can dramatically impact their lives for the better.

I also created a video so that you can see my pure passion and drive as a hard-core Steemian.

Without further ado, here are the 12 kick-butt reasons why Steemit is the #1 social network on the planet:

#1 Community

The Steemit community we have is off-the-wall amazing to say the least. Most of the people here are friendly and are willing to lend a helping hand.

Yes, there are a few that give Steemit a bad name and use it for their own selfish gain at others' expense. But those users are few and far between.

The Steemit community is strong and is getting stronger every day. As more and more users are attracted to this platform, the strength of the community is enhanced.

People from other platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, are migrating their followings here and spending time interacting with other Steemians.

Here at Steemit, we build each other up through our words, our actions, and our top-notch information, which I talk about next.

#2 Content

The content you will find on Steemit is extremely rich and value-driven.

A lot of posts are published after much time and attention was put into it.

Sure, there is some junk out there, but a majority of the content you see posted on Steemit is high-quality.

Steemians are a different breed in a sense as we focus on the end-user and what they want to see, read, and watch regarding a certain topic.

Steemit is quickly ranking on Google, Yahoo, Bing, and other search engines because the quality of content is high and the quantity of content is large.

#3 Authors

This one rings close to home for me because I LOVE writing.

Anyone who is a regular blogger or simply enjoys sharing ideas and teaching on a particular topic, does really well on Steemit in terms of user engagement.

Steemit is like your own personal blog site that has added benefits different from a traditional blog. Some of those benefits I am outlining here in this post.

Being an author does not limit you to writing as you can also create quality videos often shot with a laptop webcam or a smartphone.

In many cases, a combination of video and text is what will set a post apart from one that only has one or the other.

A few great examples of strong leaders in the author category are @axios , and @joeparys . I definitely recommend checking out their profiles as you will gain crazy value from their content and their abilities to give back to the community.

Authors play a MAJOR role in the development of the STEEM blockchain which we will talk more about shortly.

#4 Curation

On Steemit, users get to participate in the success, or rewards, of a post written by an author.

When users UPVOTE a post, they are acting as a curator to that piece of content.

I encourage you to participate as a curator on this post, as well as other quality posts on Steemit.

Go ahead and hit the UPVOTE button at the bottom of this post to help boost it's popularity and share in the rewards.

The more people that see how amazing Steemit is, the more joyous society will become.

#5 Reward System

Steemit has a well-established reward system for those who are interested in earning SP (Steem Power) or SBD (Steem Blockchain Dollars)

Whenever an author publishes a post or leaves a comment, it is eligible for rewards. The amount of rewards depends on the amount of curation the post receives.

Generally, the more upvotes a post or comment attains, the more SP and/or SBD it will accrue.

Upon publishing a post, you have the option of choosing to Power Up 100% or to receive a 50/50 payout of Steem Power and SBD.

Powering Up 100% means that you want all of your rewards to be given in Steem Power. Choosing the 50/50 option gives you half the rewards in SP and the other half in SBD.

The Steemit reward system is an amazing method to earn as you continue posting quality content.

A HUGE thank you to @ned and the team for allowing the everyday, average Joe to earn rewards in such a unique and fascinating way.

#6 Blockchain

Steemit is built upon the STEEM blockchain which is acts as a public ledger for every and all transactions.

In the case of Steemit, every single change that takes place on the platform is recorded on the blockchain.

Every upvote, every comment, every post, every edit to a post, every funds transfer, EVERYTHING is public knowledge.

If you would like to check the current stats of your profile, you can visit steemd.com/@yourusername. Steemd will give you an up-to-date and accurate view of your profile as it stands this very moment.

It's kind of like viewing the STEEM blockchain in it's graphical form instead of it's raw code form.

Steem is the first of its kind to introduce POB or "Proof of Brain" where users can earn cryptocurrency by using their brain (creativity).

A social network of such great magnitude that is built upon blockchain technology is an unprecedented phenomenon that deems it worthy of being placed #1.

To find out more detail regarding this unique blockchain, visit the Steem Bluepaper page.

#7 Fun

I firmly believe that if you are not having fun doing something, then don't pursue it.

Steemit on the other hand gives its users unlimited fun and adventure.

To be in an environment where people are encouraged to create, to explore, and to add value, is a fun place to be in.

Not only that, but there are always new people to meet and interact with. You will never get bored spending time on Steemit because there is always new features and enhancements to discover around every corner.

It is also fun to view your wallet page and see the green button that says "Redeem Rewards". I find it fun and satisfying to hit that button and watch the funds roll right into the wallet immediately. Good times!

#8 Apps

Because Steemit is built upon the STEEM blockchain, it opens up the ability for developers to integrate applications on top of it.

For instance, @dlive and @dtube are two that I can think of right off the bat. These are video services that coincide with Steemit by allowing users to post live or recorded videos.

This is similar to YouTube, but it is basically the STEEM version. There is also one called @dsound that focuses on uploading sound files. This is especially useful for podcasters and those who would rather convey their messages via audio.

If you take a look at steemtools.com you will see a list of apps that will help you along on your Steemit journey. Choose 1 or 2 to get you started.

The possibilities for innovation are endless when it comes to apps. If you haven't checked out the above apps, I recommend you do so right away, especially if you are an avid author here on Steemit.

#9 User Friendly

Steemit is user friendly in that learning the interface is a breeze. For those brand new to Steemit, it is easy to find out how it works within a few clicks.

The menus are laid out in a clean and concise manner, and the individual profiles are easy to navigate around.

Other popular social networks have so many bells and whistles, that it can be difficult for a new user to feel comfortable in the first minutes of joining.

In addition, if you take a look at busy.org, you will see an additional site where you can navigate Steemit. Some prefer this site over

Steemit.com / Steemit.com
.

Steemconnect.com is a universal login interface for the Steem apps ecosystem. I recommend checking it out next chance you get.

I personally use SteemConnect frequently and enjoy the benefits it gives me when interacting with Steem apps.

#10 Witnesses

Witnesses play a large role within the Steem ecosystem. If you take a look at steemd.com/witnesses, you will see a current list of all witnesses on Steemit.

The below quote is from the FAQ section of Steemit.com which tells more about the role of a witness.

Steem is based on a new state-of-the-art blockchain technology called
Graphene, which uses "witnesses" instead of "miners" to produce
blocks.

The "delegated proof of stake" model of using witnesses instead of
miners allows for greater efficiency in block production.

The community elects 'witnesses' to act as the network's block
producers and governance body. There are 20 full-time witnesses,
producing a block every 63-second round.

Witnesses are compensated with STEEM Power for each block they
create.

In other words, a witnesses' job is to power the Steem blockchain.

One witness that has truly impacted me, that I have personally voted for, is @jerrybanfield. This man has a heart of gold as he shares his passion for our community in creative way through thoughtful videos and articles.

Without witnesses in place, Steemit would not continue on its destined path to success. A HUGE THANK YOU to every witness for all that you do!

Visit steemit.com/~witnesses to cast your vote(s)

#11 Self-Development

As an entrepreneur, self-development is one of the core components to success.

Constant growth is necessary in order to stay ahead of the curve and sharpen your skills so that you can be effective in impacting others.

Steemit is the perfect place to grow as an individual and also as a group inside the community.

Those who take the time to create content, share ideas, and make the network better are those who develop at astronomical rates.

The mere act of shooting a video and teaching what you know is an excellent way to increase your public speaking skills.

Public speakers can get paid really well and impact a large number of people.

Taking the time to write out your thoughts in a complete and compelling manner will increase your blogging and copywriting skills. A good copywriter can do extremely well for themselves.

Steemit provides a platform for people to grow personally and professionally. Dive in and see what it can do for you as you work diligently and persistently towards your goals.

#12 Financial Freedom

Listen...I don't know what your goals are in life. I'm not really sure why you are still reading this article (hopefully because it's intriguing).

But I am here to tell you, that anything is possible in life if you want it bad enough. Do you want more time with your kids? Do you want to go on month long vacations? Do you want to be the biggest donor in your church or in your chosen charity?

Do you want to break free from the bondage that the status quo holds you in? Do you want to retire early?

Steemit can help you break free...to find relief...to enjoy the rewards of your labor. To build a legacy for your kids, your grandchildren, and your great grandchildren.

There are users going full-time on Steemit, creating content and improving the network as a whole.

Do you want that to be you? Let me just say this...it's possible. You are possible.

You just have to make a decision now that will impact the rest of your life.

Are you in?

If so, leave a comment below to let me know. Let me know how excited you are to embark on a journey that will take you places you've never even dreamed of.

Tell me why you believe Steemit is the #1 social network on the planet!

I can't wait to hear the impact that these words have had on your mind and soul.

Thank you for reading and I will see you in the next one.

Thanks for the shout out @kenmelendez ! Glad you are enjoying my posts :D

You set an excellent example for the rest of us

This is such a well-written piece! Personally, I have a lot of faith in the Steemit platform, and I'll keep investing in it!

Right on @stevensteel I agree with you. Let's stay with Steemit for MANY years to come!

You got it @jerrybanfield honored to do it!

Pro level steemit schilling!

Hi @ryn thank you bud. Glad you enjoyed it. Feel free to re-steem so that everyone can know how incredible this platform truly is :)

Great read, it echoes some of my thoughts as well. But do you see any danger, as more people join, that the good things get diluted or disappear. I'm sure, at some point, Facebook wasn't the hideous horror it had become. If you look closely, not everything is utopia here.

I am an extreme optimist and fully commit to what I believe in and what I am invested into. I don't consider those points you mentioned because I have faith in this platform and it's mission. I appreciate your feedback @bengy

Extreme optimism! I understand, but I think if we want the place to remain a good place to be, we need to identify the good and the bad and work to keep from heading blindly into the bad. But I'm sure (I hope), the witnesses will watch out for us. Or we will vote those that do.

Great points here brother!

Steem is the first of its kind to introduce POB or "Proof of Brain" where users can earn cryptocurrency by using their brain (creativity).

I love this! It's so very true too! We are essentially mining via the function of a creative and collaborative process. What could be better than that?

I was just talking about this on my live stream an hour ago that Steemit, to me, is like a "Proof of Worth" system. When you start posting regularly, it's hard to miss the incredible amount of value that comes back at you through other Steemians engaging with your content or just the literal value of cryptocurrency you recieve for sharing your own value. Most definitely is a proof of worth!

I really appreciate the shout out here @kenmelendez! You are doing great stuff here brother. Rock on!

My pleasure @axios...I enjoy edifying those whom I look up to .
