The Mystery of Getting 1000 Followers when you started at Steemit a little over a week ago.

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I have already seen some posts of people announcing that they have started in Steemit recently and have reached 1000 followers or more. I personally have not reached 800 followers yet and I have been in Steemit for almost a year. Of course, I am not very active in the Steemit.Chat or Discord and besides I was, in all this time, three seasons of more than a month outside of Steemit almost completely for lack of good Internet while I was in Cuba. But anyway ...

For me it's a mystery how to get 1000 followers starting a little over a week ago at Steemit.

And it's not that it's a lie or something. When you look at the list of followers, they really do. Now, in addition to the question based on my curiosity of how they got them I also wonder something else.

How many of these followers will actually interact with you?

I remember that at the beginning of starting Twitter, people were desperate to have more followers and more and more. You followed me, I followed you and we all followed everyone. And yes, in the end you had a lot of followers but only very few actually saw what you were posting. You noticed by the little interaction that there was. At that time everyone wanted their tweets read but few read the tweets of others. The reasons were several but one was obvious, there was more "production" than "demand". There were more people who wanted to be read than people who read. The interaction was very little and a social network is to have conversations between several voices, at least two. The one-voice conversation is not very funny. This was until Twitter became more famous and the "followers" began to arrive.

It seems to me that is a little what is happening in Steemit now with this new wave of users that has recently arrived.

Those same posts I've seen with bombastic titles have less than 30 views and votes and also only just a few cents of reward giving me the reason in what I think about the little interaction despite having many followers. And putting myself as an example, not many of my posts get to have more than 150 views giving me an idea that yes, there are more than 200 000 accounts in Steemit and about 750 of them follow me but from all of those which really Interacted with me during all this time are less than 300. And in the day to day in Steemit could say that less than 50. I repeat, I am not a personage known in Steemit, nor is that many of them are found, but there are. Users who interact with hundreds of people every day (or when posting a post) as @stellabelle (3155 followers), @timsaid (2457 followers), @kevinwong (3052 followers), @sweetsssj (2772 followers), @kyriacos (1939 Followers), @meesterboom (1651 followers) or the well-known by many @papa-pepper (3672 followers) to put some examples. They have been in Steemit for more than a year publishing quality content all this time organically creating the network of followers that, I can assure you, does interact with them.

From what I see, how to get 1,000 followers starting just a week ago at Steemit, is going to remain a mystery to me :P

And for the new people who are just starting out at Steemit, I do not think it's important or necessary to know it also. It seems to me, that the most important thing for you right now is to publish quality content, share it in Steemit.Chat, in the Facebook groups about Steemit (there are several already with a lot of people) or on Twitter and persevere. Also interact commenting on posts of other users, that is a very good way to be noticed and possibly win followers. Do not give up, keep posting and interacting. If the content you publish really has quality, there will always be a public for it and the "real followers" will arrive.

Always quality over quantity!

Steem-on!

We all behave differently

Some guy # 1 spends on steemit 10 hours per day, on average. He may be geting 1000 followers in 1 week.
Another guy speds here roughly only 1h per day. He gets only 100 folowers in 1 week.
Is guy's # 2 followers colecting efficiency 10 times lower? No. Not at all. They both gain about the same, 100:7=1.43 folowers during their 1h online time spent on steemit. They just have different priorities in their lives. To my understanding, the pure number (quantity) of followers does not say much about the quality of that list. The quality should mainly depend by what methods are used to collect them. What tags you read/write most, what time of day, what type is your posting (articles or comments), what the countries you are located and targeting, etc etc. The list goes on.
Theoretically guy # 1 wit h 1000 flowers has much bigger chance to have 50 very interacting/quality folowers compared to guy # 2 with only 100 faces on his list. Agree? Disagree?

Of course we all behave differently, it's the beauty of the matter :)

This it could be. The same @papa-pepper publishes 4 times or so a day almost every day. Has more followers and votes or possibilities of them than the others users in the examples that I put. He spends more time here. It is the one that publishes the most, 20 033 between publications and comments. And of course it is the one that has more followers of all of them. But I'm talking about users who started in Steemit a little over a week or so ago. So you are agree with me that ...

Thanks a lot for your comment @onealfa! A good one :)

Great article. I personally gained a bunch of followers when I signed up on a post called steemit train (very early). The idea was to follow everyone above you anf then more users would follow you. I got a few followers from this, but exactly as you said I am unsure how many interact with me and my content, if any at all. I will continue, like you said Juan, to build relationships with people and keep publishing comments and content. I love Steem!

That is the idea my friend @elderfinancial! Keep doing that and everything will grow. Thanks for your good comment :)

another thing is I rather have someone follow me that follows only 100 people than someone follow me that follows 2000 people, lots of the new people are going around following everyone hoping they will be followed back, but I won't do that because if you go around following everyone and I'm one of those people then what's even the point

You are right! I am also regretting a bit my decision to follow back everybody who follow me... Get new posts every second, it is difficult to follow my feed ;) Would be amazing to have "Lists" like in Twitter so you could organize the people you follow.

I dont get it for some people. I have seen those that follow everyone and those same people tend to follow back. I remember doing that in my first week.

Though for you I thought you were saying you had 1000 followers. Would be deserved. You have amazing content, keep it up. Its the quality of followers i think is more important.

You dont beg for them, your earn them!

Thanks for your comment @nicnas! hehehe I do not have 1000 followers ;) My problem is more about the language, English is not my native language and is a bit difficult for me to interact often... this post cost me a lot of time to write for example and is not so long :) And you are right, you earn your followers, it is always better.

What i am saying it that you deserve 1000+ followers. You have earned what you have. That means more. Dont worry about your English. I understand you just well. Thanks and keep it up.

Thanks to you @nicnas for the nice comment! :)

you're bloody right, agree totally

1000% agreed about quality!

Well said!! I wondered this also after seeing one of these posts. I've been here for two weeks now and I'm happy earning a few followers a day hoping they found something useful from my posts and comments.

That is the idea!

Thanks for your comment @adamm, you got a new follower :)

You have too!! Let's get you to one thousand and beat the week spammers!!

:D LOL!

1000 in a week ??? How does this work? You just can't interact with this amount.

I know @detlev :) I know... I hope something like the Twitter lists arrives soon to Steemit. Thanks for your comment :)

having this many followers that don't read your work is useless right?

So true

So true !

It might work this way: if somebody has 10k followers on FB and invite them to become steemians. Vue a la > 1k followers in 1 week

Congrats. Well done :-)

Thanks a lot @lichtblick!!! 🙂

Wow ! I had no idea this is even possible. As you know I am here for a long time and it was hard work to reach over 1400. 8 months!

The normal way! this how it should be ²mammasitta :) Thanks a lot for your comment, you deserve the followers you have for sure!

Grazias amigooooo! You too !

There is a post about a page where you can see how many of your followers have been active in the last month, I have 440 followers after 10 months of these 352 are active, which is not bad, the bad thing is I just get about 10-15 votes per article so they aren't reading my posts or I would expect more upvotes, then again I don't read more than 30 articles a day and I follow 606 people so I think only about 5 per cent of your active followers will indeed read your post on any given day, and that's not counting people who aren't followers who read your article on a random basis, so maybe the percentage is less.
By the way the dead followers post if you find any use for it was:
Dead Followers

Interesting calculation you make and I think you are right doing it @gduran! Thanks a lot for to let us know your personal story. Cheers and Steem-On! :)

Pd: I will use the link to see how many of my followers are alive ;)

Well, there are websites where you can buy followers for social media like Twitter etc. Maybe they added Steemit? :D

lol :D that would be very funny!!! Thanks for your comment @anonimau5 :)
