Royalty Free Images to Use on Steemit

in #steemit7 years ago

Most of the time finding a royalty free image to use with your posts is a pain, but there is a way to do that with ease.

This comes to us from Microsoft Bing:

search for the image you want to use with your post on
https://www.bing.com/images/discover?form=Z9LH

Next select filter on the right side of the screen:

Click on Licence in the options menu:

For this example I have chosen "Free to Share and Use" :

Now we have a choice of many images we can use for Bob Odenkirk:

There are a few choices like public domain, free to use and modify, free to use and share etc... However this process in not perfect, if you get in the hot seat for using the wrong image, you "Better Call Saul"...

Sort:

This is also available in the Google image search engine.
Here is an exemple

Thank you! I have been told to use royalty free images but did not know where to find them, and like you said it was a hassle! Took me an hour to find the ones I needed for my post today ahah! thanks for blowing my mind, frees up so much time to actually post! Steem on!
UPVOTED AND RESTEEMED!

Yes it's hard to work with the few royalty free image websites, this service by Bing is awesome and if they make a mistake we can blame Bill Gates ;)

I was just looking at google as to how they handle image use, when in images, you click tools, then usage rights, then labeled for reuse. Gives plenty of images to work with.

I realize I was nabbing property that I shouldn't have been using. Even with credits.

Sweet, Ill give it a go and check it out tonight! That sounds like a plan! make signs saying BBG! Blame Bill Gates! we could start picketing! ha! :)

Great! Thank you.

See my comment on the post. Royalty Free images are not free. RF is a type of paid licensing! :-)

every publisher should now that, but there are also other good sites for royalty pics, sounds and videos

@joseph I did the same thing with Google, but it often had results that were licensed. In fact, Google says right on the search result that you are responsible for the use.

There are so many good sources for free pictures, most of the time it isn't worth messing around. We don't need another "Crying Michael Jordan

"Crying Michael Jordan"? I am not familiar with that story. can you please explain?

I am providing two links. If you have any experience in legal documents, go straight to the second one. If that is a new subject, then read them in order.

In this case, where we all stand to receive financial benefit for the use of the image, it opens the possibility. Not probable, but possible.

Here is a link to a media article on it:

http://business.financialpost.com/legal-post/how-using-a-viral-meme-of-michael-jordan-crying-could-land-you-in-a-messy-lawsuit

And another from a legal perspective:

A social post is not commercial use, unless your post is just one image that you use repeatedly. There were no lawsuits for memes unless they were used as a commercial product or advertising.

Strong factors that weigh in favor of fair use are for criticism, commentary, and news reporting.

I think that pretty much describes social media.

This is a good overview of what is at stake:

I think it is difficult, and most people are not at risk, but there still exists a risk. Defamation, publicizing private data/info, false light, invasion of privacy, copyright infringement and unauthorized us of property are all named in that link.

Like I said, the risk may be small, but always "think before you meme".

Google have similar function too!

Now I will have access to all of the good Memes.

Bork!
