What is the European General Data Protection Regulation?

in #steemit7 years ago

On May 25, the new General Regulation of Data Protection comes into force throughout Europe. The objective of this is to better guarantee the protection of privacy. A regulation that affects all those companies that treat data of European citizens even if they are from the United States, such as Google or Facebook.

From the aforementioned date you will have to give your unequivocal consent so that companies can use your data if you are a European citizen. Moreover, they will have to tell you what data they are using, how they are being treated, what and who is the person responsible for them.

WHAT ARE YOUR RIGHTS

This regulation collects and recognizes, therefore, rights, such as oblivion and the right to portability. The first states that citizens can request and obtain that our personal data be deleted when, among other cases, these are no longer necessary for the purpose for which they were collected, when the consent has been withdrawn or when they have been collected in a timely manner illicit.

SANCTIONS

Fines for non-application of the GDPR law may be applied as of May 26, 2018. Anyone who has collected data for their activity may be subject to sanctions.

These are very high, and although they are modulated according to proportionality, effectiveness and dissuasive effect, they can reach between 10 and 20 million euros or between 2% and 4% of the volume of business depending on their severity.

The big internet companies such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Twitter adapt to the requirements of the new European law on the protection of personal data by modifying their conditions of use.

How will Steemit apply this new regulatory law? If you have heard something, tell me here below ...
