What is Parley?

Parley is a Steem-based Reddit competitor that allows users to submit links and curate news they find around the web in order to promote discussion on the Steem platform.

Thoughts

Yesterday, as I was browsing my feed here on Steemit. I stumbled upon a post that only contains a link to an article. What piqued my curiosity more though was not the article itself but the platform used to post the said link, Parley.

Parley seems to be a new addition to the growing list of platforms based on the STEEM blockchain. As what I've read on their introductory post, the main goal is to provide a fast and easy way to "disseminate information" in hope to have a meaningful and fruitful discussion with others in a decentralized manner eliminating fear of being silenced, banned or removed.

What sets Parley apart from some Steem apps is that:

Parley believe that most of the value lies in the comment section, specifically in the ability for users to discuss their thoughts about global events freely and without fear of censorship.

Parley is basically a platform for discussions. You start by sharing a link of a certain topic you want to share with others and have a discussion with, be it a news, a technology update, music, current events, etc..

How to Use Parley?

1. Sign.in to Parley.io using private posting key

2. Submit a Link

There are only three things Parley wants from you: A working Link of the article or news, your preferred Title and the community/tag you want to post it to. And that's it! Simplicity at its finest.

My personal thoughts

I love the idea of a reddit-style decentralized platform for discussion. I feel like this is made for people who have little to no confidence on their writing but are very opinionated. This way, someone who wants to start a discussion can just "share the link" of something and wait for people to come along. One problem I see on Steem is that there is no easy way to start a discussion, almost everyone is not confident on their writing abilities but almost everyone have no problem on expressing their opinions via a comment.

My only concern about Parley is it's one of the easiest way to abuse the system since you literally only need a link to post to the blockchain. Apart from that, Parley is a great platform, especially for people who have a hard time to start a discussion with.
