I wanted to share some tips because I know that joining a new platform can sometimes be hard, confusing, and frustrating when you don't believe you are getting the results that you deserve.

Anything that is worthwhile will take time and dedication to achieve, but I hope this information will be useful to anyone hoping to grow their audience on this great platform.

1. Engage In The Community

When you are just starting out, no one knows who you are. That means that even if you post a great piece of content it may not get the recognition that it deserves because people simply aren't seeing it. To overcome this you must start engaging in the community. Nothing I'm saying is black and white, but the vast majority of the time if you are just posting but not engaging on anyone else's content then don't expect people to just come to you and give upvotes. You must form relationships. Put effort into reading other people's information and respond with engaging comments that actually show you read it. People will notice and appreciate you for doing so.

2. Post Content Every Day

It is important that you establish your presence early. When people visit your profile and they see a long resume of interesting content, it tells them that you are putting in a consistent effort. This is doubly as important when you are new and you need to grab the opportunity with both hands and hit the ground running. There are so many accounts that already have tonnes of interesting content, so why should they follow you? Show them that you are here to stay by putting out content every day.

3. Format Your Posts In An Attractive Way

Straight up, I will not bother reading anything that is just a large block of text, and neither will anyone else. You might be an amazing storyteller and writer, but if you cannot present your work in an attractive way then don't expect to get anywhere. Part of the job is to hold your audiences attention not just with good writing but an attractive viewing experience, so I implore you to break up your content with relevant images, correct punctuation and paragraphs, sub-headings and anything else you can think of. Attractiveness is the name of the game.

4. Choose A Niche

Get to know the platform and check out all of the different tags that Steemit has to offer. Eventually, it is a good idea to choose a niche that you would like to primarily engage in and write about. Personally, I prefer to follow accounts that specifically write about a select few topics. On the other hand, I am less inclined to follow someone who posts content with no direction, rhyme, or reason. If you are interested or have a lot of knowledge on a specific topic, share it with the community and show your value.

5. Use Concise and Attractive Titles

Similar to why formatting is necessary, an attractive title is very important. It is worth spending time on your title to make it as clear and concise as possible so that at a glance people can see immediately what the post is about. With so many posts to choose from when browsing content, it is up to you to stand out and having a very clear and appropriate title is one way of doing so.

6. Post At Busy Hours

This is an obvious one but a lot of people may need reminding. If you want to increase your chances of being seen by the right people, post when they're awake and online. Don't bother posting the 5 best ways to detox your body at 3am because chances are the people that might have been interested in reading it are sound asleep. Post first thing in the morning or even after you get home from work, see what times work best and stick to them.

7. Be Very Selective With Your Tags!

There are 2 points I want to make here: Don't use tags that are not relevant to what you wrote (obvious), and secondly don't just pick the most popular tags on the platform. Instead, if you go and check out the full list of tags available you can see how many posts there have been, and the total payouts given in each tag. My advice would be to pick a high-payout and low-post count category, and also picking the tags relevant to your article that are of medium size. If you constantly pick "Life" and "Blog" your article will be bumped down within seconds of posting. I'm not saying don't use them, you can absolutely chuck them in from time to time, but just make sure you get the most bang for your buck and pick carefully. Remember, your first tag is your primary tag and you cannot change it after posting, so at the very least make that one count for something.

8. Experience and Test

Don't expect to do everything right the first time. Things take time to learn and anyone who started here and made any progress were not afraid of trying new things. You might find that posting at 7pm worked best for you instead of 3pm, or maybe your people really liked a specific style of writing on one of your posts but less on another. Don't be afraid of trying new things, and don't let your eagerness to progress overshadow being smart about how you play the game.

9. Just. Keep. Posting.

Lastly, don't let any lack of engagement keep you down. If you genuinely believe you have value to share then keep sharing great content and applying the above rules. Your time will come, and even if you only have a handful of dedicated readers that should be enough to keep your desire alive. We all start from somewhere, and it just takes a bit of patience.
