What You Should and Shouldn't Be Doing

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I have been using the steemit platform for just over a month now, so I am far from an expert, but there are several things that I have noticed that people are and aren't doing which is holding back both their earning potential and their enjoyment level here on steemit.

More than just $$$$$

Steemit is a social platform that rewards good content, curation and those that take the time to help the community.

  • What you should do
    • Interact - Introduce yourself to people, spark up a conversation on steemit chat, join a discord, read some posts and leave a thoughtful comment and question.
  • What you shouldn't do
    • Take before you give - Don't ask people to follow you, resteem or upvote your post, spam your links and want people to do something for you before you've even had a conversation.

Knowledge is Power - READ, READ, and READ some more

The more you read about steemit the better you will understand what the goal of this platform is and how you can help and prosper within it. After you've made your introduction post, talked to a few people and explored the site a bit, go read the steem whitepaper, this will give you a much better understanding of what Steem and Steemit are. You can find the whitepaper here.

  • What you should do
    • Use the search bar on the home page to search for tips tricks, websites, tools and anything else that may be beneficial for you here on Steemit. Go find some accounts that have been here over a year and are successful, read their posts, comments and learn about what they have done to be successful.
    • There are some great steemians out there who are absolutely killing it here because the post quality stuff. @jerrybanfield has taken steemit by storm in less than 3 months. @papa-pepper shares quality posts about his life and has been consistent for a long time. @kingscrown has been posting about bitcoin and other crypto news, adding value to the crypto community.

These are just 3 of the many steemians who add quality content to our community.

  • What you shouldn't do
    • Think that you are going to get rich by posting hundreds of posts, with little to no content, use other peoples work and pass it off as your own, ask people to follow and upvote your posts and leave 2 or 3 word generic comments on peoples posts.

Tools to Help you Build

With Steemit being such a great platform with some amazing users, there are now a plethora of tools and websites we can use to help us flourish. These tools are wide ranging and can be very beneficial for new... er users.

Sites that I have found very useful are :

  • steemnow.com - Great for checking out how much your voting power is worth, who is up voting your content, your author and curation rewards, and you have the ability to search all users.
  • steemdb.com - You can see everything happening on the blockchain and so much more (I'm just getting familiar with this site)

There are also many other sites that I haven't had much time to explore, but look like they could be useful

Such as

  • steemvp.com - see who is upvoting your stuff consistently
  • streemian.com - automate some of the things you do on steemit
  • steemwhales.com - see who the big names in the steem community are.
  • Steem Chat - The best place to have a conversation with other steemians.

Now there are lots of other things that you're not doing that you should be, but for now we will leave it at this.

Don't try and do too much at once, enjoy the journey you have started here on steemit and good things will come.

Until next time.

Nice work bud! Getting the skills to pay the bills.

Yessir, time to get involved sambodino!!

@jasonshick Great stuff; however you will have to wait a few hours for an upvote.

Thanks for the read. you will not have to wait for an upvote haha

I am only 3 weeks here, and think we need more posts such as this one to help new users figure what the "hell" are they doing here and how to become successful. I have had some amazing people explain to me how everything works, but most of the new users don't. Love the part about reading other peoples success profiles, take some tips, and use some of them to grow your own.

Amazing tips shared my friend. I hope many new users will read it and find answers to some questions they need answers to. Keep on informing and educating, my friend. )

Yeah, when I first arrived at steemit I had no idea what I was doing. The more we intake and the more we increase our knowledge, the better we will do on steemit. Cheers bud

I could not agree with you more. We can all learn from each other and who knows where the future will take us. :)

Great post with a lot of helpful links thank you.

Cheers, much appreciated

I fully agree with you. To ask for votes is akin to begging. Its better that someone votes for you because ur writing appeals to them. Take care and hope to read more from you.

I'm glad you agree. People should worry less about a few votes and worry more about producing good content and making real interactions with people. thanks

Good, good write up!

Some really good points here, and links out to useful tools. Nice one :)

Thanks, appreciate the kind words
