Bringing Publicity to Steem

What a great start to the new year it has been for all of us here. The price of Steem has more than doubled while SBD has maintained its position in the stratosphere as well.

With Steem hitting an all time high and SBD still up over $8 USD, there are lots of smiles on the steemit pages these days.

However, now is not the time to celebrate, now is the time to push harder than ever for steem to reach mass adoption, to open the floodgates to the millions of potential users out there and truly elevate Steem to sit alongside the crypto elites. There are many ways in which we can each do our part, whether its through direct contact like friends or family, using other social media like Facebook and twitter, or perhaps even some marketing through a google ads campaign. We ALL need to pitch in to help keep this bull run going.

While Steemit continues to gain users and climb the Alexa rankings, we still have a lot of work to do before the party starts. For example, even though steemit now has of 500,000 accounts created and steemit currently ranks in the top 1600 most visited webpage in the world, the true number of active users is substantially smaller and the majority of traffic is coming from the same people. So, although those numbers start to paint a nice picture for steemit, when you take off your rose colored glasses you can see that there is still a lot of work to do before steemit competes with some of the social media giants.

Doing My Part

The last few weeks I've been thinking about what I can personally do to bring more awareness to the platform and help create long term sustainability. I'v had some good ideas and some not so good ideas, some ideas that would be painstakingly difficult and some ideas that probably wouldn't make much of a difference.

One idea that I have decided to pursue is the recruitment of big name social media influencers (celebrities). These social media stars have some of the biggest followings on the internet and with a few kind words have the power to turn nothing into something. From Instagram stars to authors, celebrity chefs to podcasters, there is no shortage of of social media influencers out there. If we could present some of these well known people with some good steem marketing and perhaps even convince a few of them to sign up, hordes of their followers would surely follow.

The recruits I have made my target

I love the motto, "Go big or go home", so along these lines I decided to pursue some big social media stars. The first person I have tried to reach out to is Joe Rogan. For those of you who don't know who Joe is, He was the host of Fear Factor before becoming a well known comedian. Besides his stand up gig, he also Hosts the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, which is consistently one of the most downloaded podcasts in the world. To check out some of his latest podcasts Click Here. So far I have been unable to dialogue personally with Joe, but I will keep trying, whether it's through twitter or Instagram, persistence pays off. The second big name I have started to pursue is Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary is a huge name in the entrepreneurial world. He is all about making money and I figure steemit would be a great addition to his revenue streams. I have reached out to Gary through twitter and Instagram, but to this point unsuccessfully. However, along with Joe, these are my two big targets for the upcoming weeks or months, however long it takes me to get their attention and present them with the opportunity here on steemit. The 3rd and final big name that I have set my sights on (for now) is Malcolm Gladwell. Gladwell, is a brilliant author and hosts a great podcast called Revisionist History. He has made several TED talks, won numerous awards for his pieces and truly has a great mind, I think his addition would be very powerful for this platform.

When I thought about reaching out to all three of these individuals, I wondered why I had selected these three instead of thousands of other potential candidates and the truth is, I'm really not sure. Perhaps it is because I have followed each of these men for quite some time and admire their work. Perhaps it's because we share a similar political notion or perhaps it is purely coincidental. Whatever the reason, I will be attempting to reach out to these three gentlemen on a daily basis until I am able to dialogue with them about the potential for them, here on Steemit. I could use all the help I can get and if I am successful in my endeavor, we will all reap the benefits.
