Are you Steemed that all your Steeming is not producing the Steem you expected?

A Dream Come True

So you heard about this new platform that allows you to get paid just for creating and curating content. The same content you are already doing on other platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, amazing right?!?! All these wild thoughts about going into work the next day and telling your boss you quit, are running through your head. Maybe you've already started window shopping for the fancy new car you're going to buy with all your profits, or maybe you've started looking into relocating to a beach town since you'll have the ability to work on Steemit from anywhere in the world.

Excitement Turns into money

You are full of hope, now that you've become your own boss, you decide you are going to give it everything you've got. You start by reading the FAQ section, get your bearings and start writing your introductory post. You add a picture, maybe bold and italicize some of the text, you're post looks professional. You post the story and the upvotes start rolling in. Over the course of the next few days you get 20-50 upvotes and make anywhere from $5-25 from your initial post. You think to yourself, "not bad, with a little improvement I'll be making the big bucks in no time."

A turn for the Worse

You start posting daily or at least every other day, determined to start cashing in on all this action. For some reason though the up votes have decreased and along with that, so have your payouts. That $15 initial post is looking like your ceiling as your new content is only banking you a few cents. You are in disbelief, the system must be broken, there is no other explanation for why people are up voting your content. A little bit discouraged, you keep your head down as you've made up your mind that you are going to keep working on building your millions through steemit.

### Jealousy sets in You've continued writing posts every other day, a good post fetching you $10 while a not so good post gets you a few cents. You've been looking through the steemit pages and see accounts like @jerrybanfield who has been here less time than you but being rewarded infinitely more than you. Than you see other account like @sweetsssj who makes triple digits every time she clicks that blue POST button. You start to think the game is rigged and that all your hard work will never pay off. Over time you start posting less frequently and a few months later you've abandoned steemit.

I do not have the facts, but if I had to hypothesize, I would say that this is what happens for the majority of steemit users.

Initial Excitement ------> Hard Work -------> Reward Not Matching Effort ------> Negative Mindset Shift --------> Less Active On Steemit -----> Leave Platform

Life's Not Fair

The sooner you can realize this tenet the faster you will be able to reach your goals. Realizing that we aren't all equal and that some people have an advantage over others should help to motivate you, not discourage you. Some people are coming to the steemit platform after having been successful on other social media sites and are reaping the rewards from their previous hard work. Others were lucky enough to get into steemit when Steem were only a few cents each and have reaped the benefit of early users. You on the other hand haven't done either of these, so why should you expect to be rewarded like them?!

If it was easy, everyone would have done it

The people who will succeed on steemit are the ones that invest in all aspects of steemit. Investing financially will give you a leg up on those who choose to start from 0. Investing your time will make your account more authentic and allow their users insight into what makes you tick. Lastly, investing emotionally is what will separate you from the fakers. Making connections with other users via steemit chat or discord is a great way to start building some relationships. Making real, authentic comments on other authors posts will show sincerity. Remember, those who withstand the test of time are the true victors. Don't give up after a month or two because you are not seeing the results you expected. Do you think professional athletes came out of the womb dunking basketballs and hitting home runs?

Put in the time and the effort and eventually you will be rewarded.

Thanks for stopping by.

I used to think about giving up on steemit about every 2 or 3 days...

(Obviously I am glad that I didn't)

It is important to remember that steemit gives us an opportunity, not a guarantee.

All the newbies need to learn this ASAP!

I really like this post, which is actually applicable to much of life and certainly most working environments!

A sense of entitlement and an inability to realize that life is not fair and that the World does not owe anything to anybody seems to be increasingly common among some demographics

Cheers

That is exactly it, the world owes us nothing. If we want something we need to go out and get it, not expect it to be handed to us on a silver platter

Oh so true!!

Spot on.

It really is so important to connect with other steemians through Discord groups and the like early on. That will hopefully give a new steemian the support to get them through those difficult first two or three months.

exactly, we are living proof that is working. cant wait to see where we are 6 months from now

Hi @jasonshick, I just stopped back to let you know your post was one of my favourite reads and I included it in my Steemit Ramble. You can read what I wrote about your post here.

If you’d like to nominate someone’s post just visit the Steemit Ramble Discord

Good choice!

very nicely put....going on the trending page is a downer and yeah the game is rigged in some areas but not in all, find your tribe that matches your vibe ;)

find your tribe that matches your vibe

Very well said!

great post and great tips for someone like me who is new to the platform. keep em coming! You're inspiring people by doing so! followed you!

Glad I could help

Yep, this is how it is and people need to know!

Cool footer gif by the way, did you make it?

I had someone make it for me, for a few sbd. Can refer you to him if you're interested

I felt the same way when I start. Barely made a cent from almost ten posts. It was discouraging, but persistence pays off.

Persistence definitely pays off, we are in a great group together and have built a solid foundation
