Features Steemit Needs To Add ASAP
I know arguments about the upcoming fork dominate the conversations right now, but the Steemit platform needs some basic additions too. These don't require a graphics overhaul, and should be incorporated before someone tries to polish the interface anyway.
- A way to sort a user's blog feed to show only resteemed posts or original content in addition to the combined feed.
- A search function within each user's blog. It could tie only into titles and tags rather than be a separate full Google search implementation.
- A pinned post option. This could also be an added field in our bio options along with location and website entries.
- A way to link a series of related posts into a specific connected thread.
I doubt any of these require a fork on the blockchain, and making the platform better ensures that Steemit will continue to draw in new users already accustomed to other social networks and blogs.
I'd like to acknowledge the other users whose ideas have influenced this list, but I know I've read a lot of posts over the months and can't remember who said what. So if you wrote about this, assume I read what you wrote and bask in the glow of influence you may have had. Ignore the possibility I may have read it somewhere else instead, OK?
I'd offer to help, but I don't know anything about web design whatsoever on the implementation end. All I can do is offer concrete ideas and hope the right people see them in order to make it happen.
Steem on!

PLEASE ADD THE CAPABILITY TO AD VIDOES STEEMIT.....I HAVE GO PRO VIDOES.
The one problem there is that even moreso than images, video eats a lot of data storage, and hosting video on the blockchain would bloat it severely while linking to an internal video serve would increase the operating costs. But then, the designers have such a massive reserve of pre-mined Steem that it should now be within their budget, so maybe it should and could be done.
Ohh I agree it not possible now but I am just thinking how to take subscribers from youtube, facebook and instagram and have them start using the STEEMIT platfrom.
I agree with all of them (as I've thought of all of them myself a while ago haha).
I have not even posted a blog article yet and I already saw the need for this idea.
"A way to link a series of related posts into a specific connected thread"
That way you can tell ongoing stories etc in one place. Your other ideas are food for thought for me as I get used to the community.
I have been saying the same thing. An internal search bar to make it nice and easy to find a post you might be interested in. Those changes implamented would work!
Couldnt agree more and have been shouting about at least 3 of those and direct messaging wiukd be nice as well. Nice work! After taking a look at your page, I see a lot of great content. Following and upvoted. Please feel free to check me out and follow back.
I'm not sure direct messaging is needed if steemit.chat could be better integrated instead.
nice post and good observations, wouldnt be a bad idea if your suggestions were implemented.
I think each of these features would be an excellent improvement to the Steem community. If I were programming capable I'd likely offer up those skills.
Good summary of some of the site's needs!
People have been asking about some of these for a while. It has been a low priority for the devs, obviously, as they have not been implemented.
From what I have read, the Reason they have not been implemented is that the devs have been more concerned lately with the onboarding procedure for new members. Due to the way steemit is set up, members need to have some steem from day One so they can use the site. Where that "free money" comes from has been an issue to be worked out, and I think it IS now.
I think onboarding is now mostly taken care of, and it was smart to do that before marketing and adding lots of bells and whistles to the site. Now that we can handle the large inflow of new people, we can work on marketing and improving the existing site. I have been here a year and the site Has improved. I think we'll see more improvements like the ones you cite, very soon!
I agree with these suggestions, but I what I am really hoping to see soon is the ability to download videos like on YouTube.
That makes so much sense to have, I only been here for 2 weeks and it's all noisy... looks like twitter haha
