Rape Culture in India: Are We Breeding Rape Culture In India?

I am just shocked how recent media events have turned out to focus on the Rape culture people have had here in India.

It's not new that Bollywood films and other forms of entertainment always depicted rape as a form of pleasure and entertainment for men. Even the the courts which operates independently order gang rapes on girls who have extra marital affairs or have sex before marriage.

Let alone rapes by husbands which is completely legal and divorcing someone is a complex and solitudinal process. You haven't got anyone on your side, even your parents if you wanna divorce your husband and you would be considered an outcast. No one could ever marry you and people even consider them as witch or women who brings bad luck.

You can find daily events of girls been kidnapped and gang raped and even the local police is involved in this process and those poor women victims have nowhere to go.

Now let me speak out my real experience:

I had this friend when I was younger about 17-18 yrs of age who lived in my neighborhood about my same age. She and her family left this city abruptly I didn't have any idea why or what for reason. All I heard as rumors were she was raped and had to leave the city to live a normal life again. Now a week back or so I found her on facebook as a mutual friend suggestion and I added her. Well, it's nostalgic but we have been talking a lot recently and she gave some further info that they had to leave as her family was being pressurized to have their raped daughter marry that rapist guy.

She has good life there in Pune and I wish this guy who roams free raping girls is brought to justice for doing so.

I really have no idea why people here consider this fun and now since the media is onto this and due to efforts of some feminists groups it is brought under some control in the cities. Still on the villages and the county sides this kind of incident is regular practice unfortunately :(
