Alcohol the Destroyer

Alcohol kills about 3 million people worldwide each year and according to the WHO that's 1 out of every 20 deaths globally. Wow!

Death of course is the extreme outcome of drinking poison. However, the other "deaths" it creates are much more sinister and not so obvious to see. Let's discuss what seems to be forgotten (because of drink?) and how we can remedy this global catastrophe.

WARNING: If you love your alcohol, you may not like what your about to read.

Yeah, I'm talking about death to every other avenue of life and even if we drink socially; we are not fully optimized. After we drink, our liver prioritizes processing the poison. Thus, whatever you eat when you drink you should expect lots of those nutrients will be passing-by and going to waste. (Literally).

Speaking of waste, how about failed relationships and lost opportunities? It may be difficult to think about, but we tend to choose comforting lies over brutal truths. I have yet to meet an employer who appreciates reduced work-performance due to some "fun" the night before. It all doesn't seem very optimized or logical does it? Then there's the surreal view of those who believe booze weakens your will to the point that spirits could "take you for a ride." In other words, make you behave differently or be more hedonistic than usual.

“Alcohol” comes from the Arabic word “al-kuhl” which means “body eating spirit" and this actually serves as the origin for the English word “ghoul.” According to Middle Eastern folklore, a ghoul is an evil demon believed to eat human bodies! Furthermore, we use it as a dis-infecting agent because it literally destroys living cells. Proceeding to then drink it for pleasure and wonder why our heads hurt after a night out. Resulting in "dehydration" which is a soft word that people seem to use to replace "brain injury". Could it be worse though? Sure, a fun roller coaster ride called "Delerium Tremens" may just manifest.

The purpose of this blog is not to scare you. Awareness of the negatives is an incredibly powerful tool to propel us towards better health! Life can be stressful at times, but anything that brings pleasure in the beginning usually ends with pain in the end. Through disciplines such as meditation, reading, healthy eating, exercise or anything that takes effort in the beginning. The reward is a life filled with happiness and satisfaction.

I wish you all well on your journey in life. Let's stand together against delusion.
