Turned 60 ( in rep ) and gifted myself 1000 SP

in #steemit6 years ago

It was a hot August day here in Athens when I saw something @robcubbon posted about this new blogging thing that paid you for creating content.

I was familiar with cryptocurrencies, but this concept of rewards for what you did for free elsewhere totally blew my mind. It was called Steemit. I researched more , saw a ton of videos and I created an account.

Full Steem Ahead

Then I started to post and interact. Here’s my intro post for those who don’t know my strory. And now, some eight months later ,I turned 60 in reputation. So, I thought to do a little celebration/reflection post and share some of my thoughts about Steemit and life in general.

Your life is the product of your moment-to-moment choices Daren Hardy.png

After eight months , I have more than 2000 followers and wrote almost 3000 posts. Three thousand posts mean 10 post per day. The last 3-4 months I would say they are way more since I answer every non spammy comment on my blog and whenever I have time I hop on other people’s blogs.

To be honest I don’t care about the number of followers, I care about the people that support and see their names as regular voters and commenters. I know who you are and I am thankful and grateful for your support.

I want to especially thank all the guys and galls @greek-trail . We have built an exceptional community and I am happy and proud to be part of this. Thank you again.

Learning and having Fun

This is a space that cryptos are thoroughly discussed and this was one of the reasons I come here. Indeed, I learned a lot about this technology and we had our up and downs. And I don’t mean only price action.

And I learned a lot on a plethora of other subjects. Hey, I even learnt about the weirdest animals on Earth from you-know-who. Learned a lot researching my own posts and practiced my writing and English skills. Now, I am better than I was six months ago. I type faster and make less mistakes.

And I am finding my voice and style. And I am having fun. I actually chose to have fun and stay away from some drama that happens from time to time. We live in interesting times. I can write about theater, cooking, music. I can write about things I enjoy doing. Hey, I can even write about beers and get paid for it. How cool is that?

Some tools

I must have used most of the tools that were created and ended up using these:
Steemnow.com : to monitor votes and payouts.
Steem.supply : to see future payouts
Gina bot : discord bot to track comments, posts and other metrics
Discord App : I am not a chat person and trying to improve on that
Canva.com : I create my graphics there
Grammarly.com : a freemium chrome plugin that corrects spelling mistakes.

Next is … Ok , ok … I will talk about these … You know … The bots … I have used them and will continue to do so if they are profitable in SBD terms. I use only the top-5 and bid the minimum amount. I don’t have any major issues with them, other than abuse but blame human nature for that and not the bots. They are far from perfect, I see them as an interesting test, a unique approach in promotion. If you have any strong opposing opinions let’s not discuss them in this post. Thank you.

The Golden Rule of Life and Steemit

Do to others FIRST ( and consistently ) what you want them to do to you.

This is how humans work and this how Steemit works. Want engagement? Engage first and be consistent. Give first and give a lot and a lot of times. Then people will remember you and give back. And sometimes even more. Do the work and Steemit will work for you. Do nothing and whine? You will have more to whine about.

IMG_20171112_185936_495.jpg

And invest. Invest in yourself. Could be books, courses, seminars always try to improve your skills. Be a better writer, photographer, designer. Whatever you do , be better every day. Investing on yourself is the best investment you will ever do and it will pay dividends for the rest of your life.

And you could invest on the platform. I know there are people that cannot afford to buy Steem but those who can and say they believe in Steemit they should put their money where their mouth is. I did. Most of the Steem Power I have is Steem that I bought and yesterday I got myself a gift. I bought 1000 Steem and powered up. So, don’t ask me if I believe in the project. Go check my wallet.

Times are Changing

We live in exciting times. New technologies are emerging , industries are being disrupted, people’s lives are changing. Those changes may not happen as fast as we may think they will or would like, but they will happen. I am a civil engineer and I don’t see bright future for my profession. I think that the Blockchain technology is the future and I want to be part of this revolution. More and more I see myself as an entrepreneurial content creator rather than anything else. The course is set and hope I will have you together on this journey.

I am talking a new type of entrepreneurship. A business that is satisfying, profitable and provides value to the world. For more you can read this post that I made.

I am in for the money. Won’t deny it.

But, it also can be fun.

It can be satisfying.

It can contribute to the world in a positive way.

And we can be better human beings along the way.

Will we be able to make it?

We will find out in the one-year anniversary post.

And until then …
Be Healthy, Smile and Steem.

Nice one Ilias! 60 is tough to get so credit where it's due! Great time to buy as well as Steem is quite low at the moment. hope all works out for you!

Thank you. We will work to work it out. :)

Congrats man! Thanks for being a CONTRIBUTOR to the community with positivity. THIS is how we ALL support each other and create real change in the world 🙏

Thank you Jeff. The first step of changing the world is to change ourselves.
And this is what our communities are about.

Congratulations Ilias and thank for this update and your Steemit story.

Nice present you got yourself there. I think it's a great time to do that - sales are on.

Glad you are loving it on this great platform :)

Thank you. We are good company here.
Steem on . :)

10 posts a day?! Wow, that's dedication! Looks like it's paying off!

Comments count as posts. For example and until now I have answered to 17 comments. :)

W H O A ....you're an inspiration, just what I needed. TY young man.

Thank you , sir . :)

Dude congrats brother!!

Thats a nice achievement and even a better cause to drop yourself a nice 1000 SP, especially in these dark days of low steem.!

I agree, followers dont really matter, its commitment and the group around you what actually counts. Those are your actual followers!

You can be proud of what you achieved, and I wish you all prosperity for the future.

Greetings from somebody who you can consider a real follower ;)

Thank you Karin. I would like to consider you friend.
And you owe me a beer in the next Steemfest. :)

Heyyyyy!!!! I just met @karinxxl on PYPT!!! SMALL WORLD, and steemit makes it even closer!!!!! Hehehehe hi Karin!!! Don't know if you remember but I was Capt'n dreemsteem on Thursday hehehehe

If this continues we may discover that we are distant relatives ... :)

Well.i did take 2 years of Greek in high school..... So there's that. Hahahahhaa

And you already know I love spanakopita and I make a MEAN galaktoboureko... And also my baklava is to die for.....

So we are pretty much brother and sister. Hahahahhaa

You like spanakopita and you make galaktoboureko ...

We are soul mates for ever. Or should I say belly mates ... :)

Happy to buy that one for you man! As long as its a decent beer hehe

Damn it would be nice if steemfest would just be around the corner here.
Steem on my friend!

Congratulation you my friend @iliasdiamantis, you are good person, you help me everytime, when i need help.Thank you! You deserves more!!!😊

Thank you. Helping other people makes me happy.
All the best to you and your family . :)

I LOVE this post!!!! It's my heart too!!!
Except I'm one of those weird ones that aren't actually here for the money. Hahahhaahaa I know I know.... Everyone is like "ok, liar!"
I LOVE the concept of being paid for sharing what's in my kind!!!! Do NOT get me wrong.the money is totally icing on the cake!!!
But I end up spreading my steem around cuz I like fun and contests and challenges and I LOVE engagement more than anything!!!!

If the value of my post is down but my comment section is booming... I'm a happy girl 😊

And congrats on your achievement!!!! I'm about to buy some steem too. Soon... Just not sure exactly when. I just had a few ideas... And maybe I'll just ping them off you and see what you think!

And if I could encourage you to try a fun channel on discord... COME SEE MEEEEE!!!! LOLOLOL

There are two that I mostly haunt... But I have a few others :) just can't spend enough quality time in all, so I try to support two as consistently as I can.

I run a new little treausre hunt called X Marks the Post where I reward READERS for reading and engaging with other steemians.. And on Thursdays @shadowspub hosts PYPT... She has me run the final clue/ race for the treasure live on her show weekly. I have a lot of fun... And I hope others do too!!! Hehehe

And then... The channel that holds my heart!!! A brand new channel called @BuddyUP. @calumam is doing something special there. I could go on and on about it... But you should check it out :)

Those would be two sweet discord.channels to try...and plus... Maybe I can see you in yet ANOTHER platform hahahhaa... Soon you and @robmenzies and I will be linked together in like 16 different apps!!!! Lolololol

Glad to have met you and looking forward to getting to know you more 😊

Thanks for your comment.

What we do here and elsewhere for that matter is time consuming. So some kind of monetary reward is crucial because something must pay the bills . I can't tell my landlord "hey no rent this month, but I had 100 comments on Steemit".

We must find a balance between money , providing value and having fun. I think we are on the right track.

Steem is cheap at the moment in my opinion. But I see the markets are bearish and could very well go lower. I have no clue, to be honest ...

You can sent me link to Discord channels , but up until now I have failed to engage with all the other channels I am in. This is something I want to change. So little time , so much to do . And I have an office to run. Anyway we'll see.

Glad to have met you. Make sure we meet in person at next SteemFest together with @robmenzies and @karinxxl and whoever else joins the party.

Steem On !!!

I agree!!!! But my husband's income pays the bills.. so I don't have to worry about this. It's the only reason WHY I can afford to have a different outlook on steemit :)

But someday.... Maybe my steemit account will hold enough opportunity that I CAN provide the income and my husband can retire! Hehehe

And I'm in the very beginning stages of helping to plan something (hopefully!!!) Very fun for the BuddyUP server!
I will send you the link and then when you're a member.... You can maybe meet Rob and me and Karin too???? Hehehe

We will see 😊

OPMs ( other people's money ) can change the perspective on many things indeed. :)

I do believe that Steem will be a valuable asset in the year(s) to come.

Steem on and kali nixta . :)

I agree!!! But the day that landlords accept comments for rent.... I will make sure to tell you FIRST! Hehhehee

I have played on Sola now... It's neat!!! I kinda like it :)
I posted three little posts... I'll let you know how each does
And NOW... I sleep 😉

Congrats! It’s nice to see some positivity and faith in the system!

Thank you. Most of all we must have faith in ourselves.

Congratulations!!! I wish when you reach rep 70 you can gift yourself 10000 SP! :D

Thank you . Your support has been invaluable and I am honored to have met you. :)
