Proposal To Amend Steemit Interface

in #steemit8 years ago

There is some great content

Some have complained that some articles are catching more attention than they deserve and many articles seem to go completely unseen. I have read a lot of reasons for this relating to people who hold a lot of influence voting them up. They say that these articles are attractive to people from outside the steem world. I am not here to debate that.

I do think however finding good content that you are likely to appreciate can be hard. I am starting to follow people and have a few that have seemed to track me through various postings and it is definitely gratifying. I notice however that the interface is still a bit immature and could use some of the types of improvement seen by outside developers like @jesta 's steemstats.com. It is developing in to a great dashboard for navigating things like comments, replies, etc.

Better Syndication Is Needed

If you look at other social networking and publishing platforms like Hub Pages and others their interface is much more mature and offers a lot better tools for syndication and helping you to find your audience. For many of us who have written for these other platforms it may seem hard to build a following and find a market. There are a lot of really great things being posted on here but to watch the stream to see if you happen to catch them does not really work. Again, @jesta's steemstats.com seems to be part of the solution but the link over there is not going to be exactly sticky all the time. If you miss his announcements you may be out of luck.

Aggregate Content

The devs @ned @dan and the rest have made recent changes to the weighting system for article posting to try to curb some of the article burst where people are fishing for a viral hit on there article. This seems to sort of create a disensentive for those who have lots of good content and are trying to make money by participating. Those of us who try to take a long term point of view ( https://steemit.com/steemit/@iamwne/persistence-approach-to-steemit-a-practical-guide ) like I have need to be able to post.

This seems like the back end trying to remediate a problem that is on the front end. A better aggregation of content is needed and better indexing so that people can find stuff that they are truly interested in. So I propose that while the devs have the best of intent it should be considered to improve the very immature interface. Perhaps then we all can find our niche and not only earn better but enjoy the best content that Steemit has to offer.
