I haven't had much luck myself, but people are saying that posting comments is the main way they generate their revenue. I would stick to their advice until you become bigger in the community.
As you can see from this post, my upvotes are increasing but earnings are not raising much. This is quite a tough environment to maintain the belief that Steem would work out and pay out decently unless the cryptocurrency suddenly appreciates.
