Typically when people think about the word blockchain the first thing that pops into their mind is BITCOIN. Of course there are many different blockchains out there and even newer technologies (such as DAG and block lattice) all competing for their share of the crypto markets. However, since Bitcoin has the First Mover Advantage in this industry it still gets the most recognition among media outlets and newer investors. It also receives the majority of investment and market share at this point in time.

Many people would be shocked to find that Bitcoin is not actually the most used blockchain in the world. It may be the most POPULAR digital currency but it is FAR from the most used.

In fact that title is held by none other than STEEM :)!

Thanks to this fantastic website called Blocktivity we can monitor the network activity and usage across the most popular blockchains:

A blockchain's value should correlate to its usefulness as well as network activity and ability to scale or handle congestion.

As you can see STEEM is number one on the list. STEEM handled more transactions in the past day than Ethereum, Bitshares and Bitcoin COMBINED!

Now this website also ranks these blockchains by two indexes known as AVI and CUI:

The AVI is determined by the amount of activity on the network in relation to the market cap of the coin. Bitcoin's value is set at 1.0 as a standard for this measure. As you can see STEEM is also number one in this category (by far).

The CUI shows the blockchain's ability to handle network activity and congestion depending on the network capacity. Bitcoin's CUI is at a terrible 100%+ (with over 30,000 unconfirmed txns) while STEEM is at a mere 0.13% full capacity.

Now lets REALLY get into why STEEM is undervalued, if the statistics above didn't already convince you.

There are over 16.8 million BTC in circulation with a total supply of 21 million.

There are 247.6 million STEEM in circulation with a total supply of 264.5 million. This means that there are only roughly 12.5X as many STEEM as BTC in total and one Bitcoin will buy you over 1,900 STEEM at current prices.

Considering that STEEM can confirm transactions within a matter of a few seconds, rather than minutes, and it has NO transaction fees I would say that it is also very underrated. Just take a look at this GIF:

As more and more people begin to migrate over to Steemit from other social media platforms we will continue to see the price of STEEM and SBD rise. There are less than 700K total users on this site, compared to over 2 billion on Facebook, so I would say there is definitely more room for growth!

Now take a moment to pat yourself on the back for being an early adopter and keep earning that STEEM while prices are still CHEAP :)
