Well, I was thinking a lot about a comment I read in Discord this week that suggested Homesteaders Co-Op are 'niche', only catering for 'homesteaders' and gardeners and preppers and the like. Perhaps those who truly still believe it's 'merely' for homesteaders might think that they'd only find honey, or seeds, or dried flowers. You'll find that, for sure! You'll find worms, and books on chickens. But you'll also find silver jewellery, and colouring books, and clothing. You'll find books and art.
My involvement with them since their inception has suggested anything BUT 'merely a niche market on Steemit'. Sure, it began as a way to support Steemians who were making and growing their own food, giving them a place to sell and even barter their goods.
Yet it's evolved to be so much more than that.
It allows every single Steemian the opportunity to sell their work, even if they don't identity with the term 'homesteader'.
And it allows every single Steemian to purchase goods by using steem or SBD with the assurance they're supporting the Steem network.
Not only that, it's helping Steem break into the mainstream by offering purchases in USD. This means that outsiders to Steem can see what kind of folk are prospering on this platform - and that means new users and new friendships and more support and adding more value to the Steem blockchain.

I've bookmarked this post. Hope I can afford to do some buying someday (ps - what about those who live in other countries, how do they get their products? I presume there is a surcharge to pay for the postal costs).
Actually, not much use in South Africa, as whenever I've had a parcel from overseas, the officials open it and help themselves to the best of what is in there.
Yes it is up to the vendors to specify which countries they will ship to and what the cost will be. Every vendor will be different.. its easy enough to view a vendor's profile to get more information about their shipping policy.. you can also add a product to the shopping cart and calculate the shipping.
Yes, we learned from @buckaroo about some of the problems shipping from/to South Africa, otherwise we would love to have her amazing soaps in our Co-op!
Wow! @riverflows this is such an excellent post, I appreciate it so much. I have tried to onboard people, and it has been challenging. The co-op provides a bridge that people are much more comfortable in exploring. I am quite excited as it offers me a resource that I can point people to without overwhelming them with confusing info about steem/cryptos etc. The co-op is a wonderful way to introduce and ease people into steem.
