Steemit is Making Waves with Hardfork 0.17.0

The theme for Steemit in 2017 is simplicity.

The Steemit roadmap for this year aims to provide a more user-friendly experience for new and existing users.

Here are some changes to expect in the near future:

The payout period will be compressed into a one time payout, 7 days after you post.

Payout delegation will enable you to give commission to not just the authors and voters, soon you will be able to reward referrers, hosting providers and developers also if you choose to. This can bring new business opportunities to steemit.

Also the payout for the comments on a thread will have their own payout period, rather than being tied to the payout period of the post.

Keep in mind that Steemit is still in its beta phase and this allows for major changes to be made as the creators and developers work to continually improve this platform.

Just like the giant waves in the video above, Steemit aims to make big waves in the social networking world and with each improvement they’re bringing more innovation and possibilities.

I'm looking forward to a brave new year for Steem and Steemit. Especially since Busy.org is added to the mix, I think we can expect great front end developement.

Hopefully, this will not take away from the developement of the Steem blockchain itself. With more and more governments launching their own cryptocurrencies, we have to expect that they will try to inflitrate other cryptos such as Steem. Then we'll need strong decentralization and we must make sure that they won't simply be able to buy themselves to the top of the ecosystem.

Yes! I'll be covering busy.org next. I agree that strong decentralization is important, how do you feel about the delegated proof of stake and the limited number of witnesses?

"Iffy" is how I feel. I come from the "Bitcoin" mindset and as much as I'm pro capitalism and don't oppose hierarchies (of which there are many subsets, yet many peaceful) as such, I would prefer that there was more public discussion and attempts to examine the entire ecosystem more critically.

Running a truly decentralized operation demands that those currently in the know of how the system runs, actually make an effort in trying to explain it as objectively and accessible as they can to the community. After which they will need to ask that even the less influential and tech savvy on the platform bring up whatever risks they may think of as possible.

I think the importance of this has been downplayed a little too much, just because theory suggests ordinary users either "don't need" to know how the blockchain at large works, or they simply "don't know as much as developers do" so their concerns are not taken as seriously.

My own critique of how things work currently often focus on the risk that one or several cults of personality pose to the platform. Money on its own is not a problem, but a lot of very irrational people still have a lot of money in this world and they could use that wealth to influence the blockchain for reasons and in ways that the rest of us might not think benefits us. - I would like to see more of a "limited government" type of approach to Steem.

Nice, I like the ability to share payouts.

Thanks for underlining the fact that we are still in beta modes! Great post, again @heiditravels, namaste :)

wow thanks

Awesome background! Where did you filmed this?

Very cool and exciting in my opinion. I do have a question though..
When you say this..

The payout period will be compressed into a one time payout, 7 days after you post.

Can you expand on this a little bit? My understanding was that it was done every day right now, so are they extending it to a full 7 days then? Would that mean you can get money coming in to your posts for a full week instead of a day? The word "compressed" has me a bit confused cause to me it seems like it's being lengthened?

Or am I just fundamentally misunderstanding something? I admit I don't know how a lot of this stuff works. Heh.

Thanks for the info! I upvoted this and followed you here on steemit and subscribed to your YouTube channel as well.

Currently there are two payout periods, one is 24 hours after you post and the next is 30 days after you post. Since it's been proven that not much more profit is earned in that last 30 days they're compressing the payout time to a one time payout 7 days after you post.
I've provided links that go further into detail about these upsates as well :)

Ahhh. Okay. I see. Thank you for the clarification!
