Epic Arroyo Seco River Gorge - A tour of a California hidden gem.
Here is a brief tale of a hidden gem in California. Arroyo Seco river gorge.
I try to leave my weekends to family, friends, exercise, and time with my wife.
We usually just live by the moto, "Weekends are for adventure." That seems to keep me and wifey on track.
Last weekend we headed to Arroyo Seco to celebrate my birthing.
This hike is tucked away in the mountains east of Monterey in Central California. It's just far enough off the coast to get scorching hot. We hike in about 3 miles on a fire road then head down to the river ready to run into the water.
Mrs. Happy Money and I arrived the night before. We camped. We always take our trusty stead "Chug" when we get a chance. Chug is slow, but reliable and gets great gas mileage. It always feels like an adventure when we start Chug up for a trip. He fits in a single parking space so we can always spend the night at Walmart in a pinch.

Yea, I say "hella" sometimes. It doesn't make me a bad person or a super-bro. It just means I don't care and I'm silly like that.
So, back to the river. You should go here if you get a chance.
What life is really about is spending time with people you love. This is my best friend Tim and I. He is a doctor, but I never call him Dr. Rauch because we grew up together and it just sounds funny. He is the type of person I like to be around. Always witty. Always honest. Always real. Always motivated to succeed and also enjoy life.

And by get the best of me, I mean he likes to sit on my head when I'm distracted.
So that is part of Arroyo Seco. We hiked for 6 hours.

Imagine the opportunity to play around like this in nature. It was a lovely day.

Looks terrific. We will be going to Big Bend Country in a few weeks. Love it there. I love how you are able to get to places that few get to. Not sure I would have the nerve to hike and camp like this.
That's awesome. I have family in New Mexico, so I've made it out to Texas a few times. I've never been to the Rio Grande though.
We all have our little local treasures. Or BIG local treasures in Texas' case.

I love moving water. It's therapeutic.
That place looks really relaxing! With summer in full force here in Korea I could really do with an awesome swimming place like that near my house!

My favorite time are out on adventures with people I love. It's what makes me feel like life is good.
Wow you are so lucky to have this within driving distance, it looks like a film to me. Specifically it reminds me of 'Into the Wild' when he goes paddling down the river illegally! As an Englishman with no such scenery in my backyard I am very envious!
