Steemit Community: The Need and Goals
No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main
MEDITATION XVII Devotions upon Emergent Occasions

In Africa, we have a similar saying,
If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.
African Proverb
The above all points to the benefit of man to have some community that he is a part of. When I joined steemit, I joined in an "unconventional" method as my joining here was not by someone giving me the talk about here works. I actually thought I was the only Nigerian here. Lol. But with time I recognized there are a lot of great communities here which everyone should identify with. Joining a particular organization without caring to know the community behind it is a sure way of shooting yourself in the foot!

There are more to be gained being a part of a community than being a lone ranger. The growth plan of 2017 proposed 7 months ago by steemit according to @steemitblog mentioned these: Effortless Onboarding( ease of use of the site), Mobile App (people have been clamoring for this) and then this
Communities are our highest priority
They clearly know the importance of community for the growth of any existing project. Without a community for a particular brand of goods, no matter how great the product is, no one would get to hear of it or even use it.
Reddit as a social media is doing great due to the amazing sub-reddit's(which are like communities of people sharing the same interest).
Steemit is a big community, we all are united by one thing, the love for the cryptocurrency, quest for freedom, a blogging platform free from ads, building a better environment and earning while we learn. But these are all people of some diverse background, education, race, religion etc. It would make it more efficient if like minds from a particular locality or interest come together to work at what best solves the problem in their various groups.
The importance of this community cannot be overemphasized, as only the person wearing a shoe knows where it pinches. So only the community knows its problems and could proffer solution to it by coming together to pool resources or ideas on how best to tackle the issue.
Steemit as a social media platform where one could earn by blogging has an awesome community of people helping others. Sometimes these people are on other continents. I have seen many benevolent helping hands offered to fellow steemians by people staying in a different continent.
Goals
Every community has a purpose and invariably goals that they cater for. It is now left for each community to define and stick to the goals which would the means to achieving the purposes. There would be a general consensus as to the do's and don'ts usually tailored in a democratic fashion as nobody wants an authoritarian method of getting projects achieved.
These rules made by communities should also be responsive to change as new challenges are met or abuses are discovered.
New members most of the times seem lost, their voices are drowned in the avalanche of posts dropping daily per second on the steemit's front page. A community, on the other hand, helps everyone opinion to be heard. Also, curating could easily be done community-wise.

By the end of the day, the community should not serve as a divisive agent, rather a unifying agent of change and progress. I notice sometimes when communities are discussed some seem to see it as a competitive group of people looking to be the overall best out of so many others. It defeats the purpose of the decentralized future where power is not supposed to be located at a particular place.
We all hate when that happens. We love the unity, equality, and opportunity offered by the cryptocurrency and me as a participant would love to see the government decentralized one day :)

Sorry to say but i feel we lack unity in our community Nigeria. Everybody wants to lead and nobody wants to follow. The power of unity is being underated here. If only people knew what we could achieve if we stood together.
I stand for unity even if i am going to be a follower.
Creating unity in the community would be another thing.
You are commented as if you don't know who we are. 😂😂
If you show an African man a well to get money and put him incharge to distribute to his fellow country men, he would simply lock the well and save wealth for his children and relations.
So making the community one would bring corruption and favouritism
The community looks fair to me currently
Not all African men
@camzy, ever heard the phrase, the dangers of stereotyping? Or the danger of generalisation? Africa is a continent made up of more than 1.2 billion people, you cannot take the action of a few to quantify the actions of others. Peace.
I would like to think of it as growing pains, we are growing and I guess we could have one or more headaches associated with teething. There are always some issues when things are in beta, I guess our community is still in beta. It is a work in progress, which would experience some bumps due to it being new and revolutionary. We are making an omelet, so, some eggs may be broken in the process :)
This angle yhu have taken it to is another angle.
I hope it is actually the way yhu have said it.
Let us pray it turns out to be a success.
I pray so too. If we can get things right here on steemit then we have won!
I tell yhu
I believe it can only get better.
Yes you are right. And i do believe there are too many projects under the Nigeria community alone compared to other countries community, yet trying to achieve the same goal.
It will get better, It's getting better will be our words and motivation.
Kudos
United we stand ,divided we fall. A lone wolf can be easily defeated but a pack of wolves is a great force.
We need to realise that oneness is the key to successful. If we have one voice, then and only then will we attain greater heights.
@smile563 I agree with you. Thank you.
"A lone wolf can be easily defeated but a pack of wolves is a great force"
That's a beautiful one you got there
Thank you @mimy
@greenrun,
This is so mind blowing.
you are full of talents.
The only rich guy I know :)
Spread some riches my end. It's awesome to have you here. Gracias
gracias bro. thank you
Yes bro @greenrun. Africa is a very huge continent with so many ever-green countries. Its only when we consider these countries as communities on steemit do we begin to see the clearer picture. Now what if these sub-communities all worked towards a common goal for all members of her larger community- Africa.
I believe we have so much potential, and I also believe we have an endless room for improvement. But we must tap it.
We can't tap it by competing amongst each other. We can't tap it by being myopic in an expansive system like Steemit. We can only prosper when we have unity of purpose...When we see all of us a units in the engine of change thats coming to the world.
Cheers!
