Steemit is going to become a multi billion dollar business - if we do this the right way!

in #steemit8 years ago

Reaching critical user-mass is the goal for any new company, product or service. And to get there, we must work smart, hard and focused.

Get the negative crypto-currency altcoin mentality out of your system, this is steemit - we are going to the moon!

I want to take a moment of my time to ask you to take the crypto-currency mentality out of your brain for an hour, and start looking at steemit.com and the steem-token as I see them, the next generation social media and the shares of the company.

I know many of you from way back in the days, you were mining altcoins, and I was singing about them - some of you even cloned a whole bunch of them, ninja-launched them in the middle of the night, paid some listing-fees so you quickly could sell your "shitcoin" and get more Bitcoins - that mentality is very destructive for you, so forget about that model - stop thinking short term and let´s focus on the long term gains here.

Users can easily afford to pay a fee to join Steemit - it should not be free for anything but promotion

Steemit.com in the future will not be free to join, I believe. Account-Creation-Fee is a real deal and in the future users will be happy to pay $5, $10, $15 dollars to register account on steemit.com and compete with other bloggers about their life, their meals, their drones... People in the real world like to pay for stuff and services, and obviously steemit.com is a place that should cost some money to enter.

And we Grow - And what happens when we grow in real users paying real dollars to open account?

So we grow and we grow, and what happens when we grow? - Well, we need to scale up, which we are ready to do - and when people have to pay say $15 dollars to join Steemit.com, when we have 1 million real users - we have made $15 million real dollars that goes into the demand-side of the economy, and at 10 million real users - we have made $150 million real dollars into the steemit economy are you following me so far?...

Steemit is going to become a multi billion dollar business - if we do this the right way!

Sort:

pay $15 to get paid blogging, 30 day refund window if you don't earn $15

all sales are final :)

30 day refund is a way to deal with charge backs when accepting fiat money

well, I know that is the common practice - and we can have a 30 day money back guarantee as well, just delay releasing owner, active and memo-keys until the money back guarantee expires and have delayed voting-rewards on new accounts to give them their first payout in 40 days for example :)

just throwing ideas around here.

how about a referral program that pays me 10% of rewards of every person i refer, paid to me as steem power

I have wanted a referral program since day 1
I am surprised they don't have one as it would create a lot of incentive and cost them nothing because payments would be in steem anyways...
Seems like a no brainer...Though my brain tends to work much differently than most~*~

there is referal program here just theres no benefits for people who refer others for now

Lol I remember I called you a troll on twitter for pushing Quatloo coin and then you convinced me to give it a try along with the trading bot:)

I made a nice sum on that! So you were right on that too.

It is very easy to get into the "negative" crypto mind. I saw it a lot recently with Waves (which incidentally seems to be getting moving too).

If we all work towards making Steemit that multi-billion dollar business we can make it all that more likely that it will happen.

All the best:)

Thank you, don´t forget to vote for my sales and marketing witness: fyrst-witness on https://steemit.com/~witnesses

I'm no expert when it comes to sales & marketing, however, it's hard to dispute the success of other social media platforms like facebook and twitter, neither of which charge a registration fee.

IMHO a fee to join just hinders adoption and it puzzles me to see you propose it. It would make sense to charge a reg fee once you reach a certain stage of growth, but to require it before then seems counter-intuitive. Then there is the psychology, "we have great shit, and we're proud of it. Come join us so you can be the first of your friends who found this wonderful, shiny new thingy". It takes a lot to reach that tipping point. Just don't see the psychology of your approach.

Care to elaborate on why you think it's necessary or why it won't hinder adoption?

So--

  1. This is a quality post. Nice writing, and I couldn't agree with you more:
    https://steemit.com/beyondbitcoin/@faddat/why-the-steem-market-cap-is-inevitably-headed-greater-than-1b

  2. Charging to join the chain might not be a bad idea at all. On the other hand, I don't know if I'd have joined if it'd cost money. But I am joined now, and one thing that we can say for sure about this community is that we've got brains. Personally, I'm fine, 100% fine eschewing things like sports gambling on our platform in favor of anything that helps us to keep reaching our current demographic. We're already outside of the current "cryptocurrency" crowd, and well, this is elitist of me, but I don't care.

  3. Some platform tweaks are needed:
    a) Comments are undervalued. I'm going to paste this one into a post, because of that, but shouldn't really need to. Should go with a medium.com "content is content is content, even if it's in reply to content" policy for comments vs. articles: They should all be articles.
    b) Guidelines for using the blockchain as internet infrastructure need to be published and publicized.
    c) Witness pool should probably be expanded, and witness system specs should be enforced to ensure high performance of the chain generally. I'm not only talking hardware, either-- we depend on low-latency witnesses for our very survival as a community.

  • The future clearly belongs to folks in tech with brainpower. We have that, let's use what we've got more effectively (we're not doing enough to empower developers, developers, developers!)
    • Freaking Modern API
    • Salaries from the chain itself and reviews on those working for the chain by those who actually know code themselves.
    • A software roadmap that is coherent, and constantly updated. It doesn't even need to be 100% strictly adhered to-- we all know how that can go with software-- instead, it NEEDS to be up to date.

Charge them 15$ and give them 15$ worth of Steempower.

I think that there are a lot of directions we could go here. Once increase allows for charging fees to join, then that's fine. But for now, to get critical mass, the real asset would be user driven advertising.

suggestions ?
