To Steem or Not to Steem: That is The QuestionsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

“I’ll trade you a pickle for a nickel.” Deal? What if I told you that you’ll be able to buy two pickles for a nickel next week? Would you still buy my pickle? I believe STEEM is the pickle and SBD is the nickel.

SBD (Steem Backed Dollars) Pro #1: Stability

It’s all about the money, honey. Well, at least for some. Visionaries probably wouldn’t qualify for such a position because they see the bigger picture. But, for the short-sighted, “the bigger picture” means a bigger T.V. in their living room.

There are two categories of Steemians: the bulls and the bears. The bears believe in Steem but are not willing to risk any loss. To prevent losing, the bears prefer to own SBD (Steem Backed Dollars) rather than STEEM due to price stability. It doesn’t matter if STEEM is worth 1 cent or $100 – the price of 1SBD remains the same: 1 US Dollar. The bulls either REALLY believe in STEEM for the long term or they are speculating on the price for short-term gains.

SBD Pro #2: Become a Liquidity Provider

“There’s always money in the pickle stand.” There is a big difference between holding SBD and STEEM than trading them. Without having both, you can not be a liquidity provider. Liquidity providers, as they are mentioned in the Steem Whitepaper, are those that use Steem’s internal market to buy/sell SBD & STEEM. If your trades go through, you can earn Liquidity Points. Here is a snippet of the Steemit Whitepaper:

SBD Pro #3: Buy Air Time and be Seen (Promotion)

      credit

Promoting a post is like a Super Bowl commercial – a one time deal. Just because you saw a Super Bowl commercial trying to sell you cherry flavored cow manure would you buy it? Of course not! But, that is what you can do with SBD – promote any shitty idea you want just like a Super Bowl commercial.

STEEM Pro #1: Convert to bitcoins using ShapeShift.io

It’s a lot more convenient to trade STEEM for bitcoins than it is to trade SBD for bitcoins. The internal market on Steemit does not deal with bitcoins so you need to find a third-party exchange to accomplish this. I personally like to use Shapeshift.io to convert any of my cryptocurrencies to bitcoin. Unfortunately, ShapeShift.io does not have a SBD to BTC converter.

STEEM Pro #2: Convert to Steem Power (SP)

Whoever yells the loudest wins. Ok, that’s not true, but it sure does help. One of the benefits of STEEM is that it can be converted to Steem Power (SP). The more SP you have the bigger of a megaphone you hold on Steemit. It is much easier to draw attention to yourself or others when you can yell really loud.

STEEM Pro #3: Greater the Risk, Greater the Reward (MOON)

The Apollo missions ain’t got nothing on me if STEEM hits $3 or higher. Many Steemians would have moon bases if that did occur because they are taking a risk by holding STEEM. On the other hand, anyone holding SBD won’t gain a thing if STEEM rockets to the moon. No risk, no reward.

Great post. Made me laugh a few times!

Thank you. I'm glad my peculiar humor gets any laughs.

FYI - the liquidity rewards that are listed in the whitepaper are no longer being supported. They were discontinued several hardforks ago, due to an exploit.

I already had the blog completed when I was notified of that fact as well.

Can you provide a source? I haven't had time to track down where that is mentioned. Thanks.
