I based this ..um episode on the idea that mind controlled dystopia wouldn't be so much as planting new thoughts and memories but, chemically controlling moods. Every person would be helplessly anxious at the start of their day and hopelessly satisfied at the end to ever think. This is what we want in society even right now: to be duped into infinite happiness. Lucien had to be an adopter of the tech for the appeal of safety for early adopters and mainly to beta test the tech. Maybe the whole political make of it could be a prequel to this one.
