I agree with this and I state many times that I don't do "follow for follow" - I find it to be the most ridiculous concept. I have never fallen for that trap, not even on other social networks or blog circles. And what you say here is exactly why.

I also read a comment of yours, I don't tell people they should upvote or anything, or that I've done either of those things either. Just feels weird.
