How to delegate steem without scripting, my very first experience

in #steemit7 years ago

Hi again. This post is going to be a bit different from my usual posts. thanks to @drmake for teaching me this trick.
For once my post is not about stuff I have made, but just for good measure I have chosen a recent 3d-printed rams head as my title image.

I have been interesting in delegation for a while. I have succeded in convincing some people to start steeming and I wanted to be able to support them in the beginning. I have also become involved with of people who do alot more than me towards creating communities around some of the thing I find interesting.

The easiest way to support such people or projects is to just transfer some steem to them, but this is a permanent transfer, a donation.
Delegation on the other hand is like lending your steem to someone. you can withdraw the delegation again at any time and will have your steem power back. The one receiving the delegation on the other hand will get all curation rewards related to the extra steempower they have for the duration of the delegation.
For some of you, this may be obvious but i though i would write a post about it anyways, maybe someone can learn something from it.
A few minutes ago @drmake made a really interesting post about one of the projects that I like (and have benefitted from in the past) the @steemmakers. they curate , upvote and promote diy and maker posts here on steemit. That is a really good idea I think. These are some of my favourite subjects and also something I post about myself.
The post (that you can check out here) is about delegating some of our steem power to the @steemmakers profile and I wanted to help.
Unfortunately i didnt know how to delegate. I had read some posts about it earlier but it seemed rather complicated.

well it doesnt have to be. and @drmake was kind enough to point me in the right direction.

step 1 is to find your active key.(not the owner key. if you are confused about these, do yourself the favour to check that particular part of steemit lore out. It really is quite important)

step 2 is installing the Steemplus Chrome Plugin . it is as easy as googling "Steemplus Chrome Plugin " in chrome and accepting. (you may have to reload the page after or even restart chrome). I am a firefox user myself but I have chrome installed and i guess it is ok to use it for this simple thing.

step 3 open your account and login (you can just use your posting key here if you want. you will be prompted for the active key later) you should get something that looks like this image. Look in the upper right corner there is a new button.

the little flower/propeller will be grey. push it and activate the plugin.

step 4 delegate. you should now have a delegate button under your steempower similar to the one in the image press it and follow the instructions (this is where you will be redirected to steemconnect and prompted for password. you do not need your owner key here (and shouldnt use it unless you have to). Use your active key instead) choose the account to get the steem and the amount you want to delegate, then lean back and enjoy the satisfaction of having done something good for the community :-)
It was surprisingly easy to do and involved no scripting at all (as a programmer I shouldnt be put down by a little scripting but a guy has to have some spare time you know)
I hope this will be useful and dont forget. if you want to experiment with delegating a bit of your steem, you might as well send some to steemmakers while you are at it.

The @steem-plus addon is also available for Firefox & Opera.
You don't need to switch your Browser for this :)

Of course it is silly me. Thanks for the info. I was in far too much of a hurry to check it out properly. In the future I will just do it in firefox.

Thank you so much for this information.
