Got that same email - more than 4 weeks after I "applied" using just my email. I signed up through my FB account (once I remembered what it was). Wonder why the email only signup process takes a month. I'd have forgotten about steemit if I didn't have the FB route.

some weeks ago it was not possible to sign up, but you could add your mailadress to an invitation list. See below the text of the mail.
