I thought you knew! #12- The 12

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Did you know that all except 1 of the 12 Disciples died violent deaths? Well, I thought you knew!
12.jpg

All the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ all died violent deaths which ranged from, stoning, crucifixion, beating to beheading except one, John who was cast into a cauldron of boiling oil, but escaped miraculously without injury. After the failed attempt to kill him violently, he was then banished to the isle of Patmos where he wrote the last book of the Bible, Revelation.

HOW THEY EACH DIED.

  • Paul.- He was beheaded during the reign of Nero.

  • Peter.- He was crucified upside down as he asked to be killed that way saying, he was unworthy to be crucified like Christ.

  • ANDREW.- He was crucified on a transverse cross at Edessa.

  • Mathias.- Who was elected to fill the vacant place of Judas Iscariot, was stoned in Jerusalem and beheaded.

  • Thomas.- He was thrust through with a spear and killed.

  • James.- At the age of 94, he was beaten, stoned and finally had his brain dashed out with a fullers club by the Jews.

  • Phillip.- He was crucified in A.D 54, after being scourged and suffered imprisonment.

  • Barthelomew.- He was martyred in Amenia.

  • Mark.- He was dragged to pieces by the people of Alexandria at the great solemnity of serapis, their idol.

  • Luke.- He was hanged on an olive tree by the idolatrous priest of Greece.

  • Simon.- He was crucified in A.D 74.

Well, now you know!

Hello! I am not trying to be unfriendly, but I can't find any source within the bible that states Peter was crucified, let alone upside down. It seems to be speculation and insinuation, but no confirmation.

Thanks for your help, and nice post.

BTW, what is Steemit Accelerator Hub? function?

Well, I don't think I can help you there mate. Steem Accelerator hub, I can help you with. Have a read. Thanks for stopping by .

It's not in the Bible, that is correct, but it is historical fact.
Other historical facts that have been brought to us from that time period include the books of Josephus. You can read about the destruction of the Temple by the Romans from him, and it is an horrific account. It is, in all likelihood, what Jesus spoke of when he talked about the Kingdom of God coming within this generation.
A vast number of Jews were killed by Titus leading the Roman army.

The martyred saints. Remained with the Lord til their dying breath.
Indeed no history about the apostle John after being banished to Patmos.
The Lord is such a sovereign God! :)

The Lord is indeed a sovereign God!

Yes, I knew, but it sort of escaped my mind. Thanks for the reminder. Indeed, our God is sovereign. Praise Him for His Word, and praise Him for people like you who share with us.

now we know better.

Thanks for the info

Commonity steemit good post

It is a powerful witness that none of the apostles became wealthy for being Christian, and their scattering throughout the ancient world and yet dying with the same breath and beliefs in Jesus Christ risen truly points to something otherworldly and special that took place at the Resurrection of Our Lord.

Does any other philosophy or religion begin with such coordinated failure, and yet conquer the world?

there is nothing compared to this love and sacrifice by the apostles. No philosophy or religion is this strong to survive these early failures. Its just One true resurrected Christ!
