Water Methanol Injection - EXTRA POWER!!!!

in #steemit7 years ago

Hi Folks,

Several weeks ago I posted regarding my desire to boost the power of my little Skoda Fabia 1.6CR TDi engine.

You can read that post here to familiarize yourself.

Yes, things have gone a little quiet of late on this subject but this is mainly due to the monetary 'squeeze' of Christmas and also the cold weather which doesn't bode well for working outside at this time of year (no warm garage folks). BTW, that's NOT my garage in the photo.

That being said, in the mean time I have revised the design further and also purchased a couple of the 'big ticket items' required for this project.

1. 80psi water pump (higher pressure pumps are available).
2. 12v solenoid valve.

Both these parts were around £10.00 each.

Other parts required include:
1. Boost switch.
2. Intake manifold (so as not to damage original in case project 'goes South').
3. VW hose repair kit (bespoke connectors in this kit are required).
4. Non-return valve (check valve).

Plus, I'll require various pipe connectors, tubing, misting nozzle (jet), hose adaptors, wiring, switches, LEDs, in-line fuse, cable ties, etc., etc. I reckon (despite my previous estimate of £100) that I'll require over £150 to complete the project. That's still cheaper than a commercial system though, if a little more rudimentary.

As previously stated, I've managed to revise the system while making it simpler too. I'm probably on version 9.0 by now. I finally decided on using the windscreen wash bottle as the water/methanol supply tank so no more detergent allowed in with the water. This will make the system extremely stealthy as well as simplifying the overall concept and parts required.

So watch this space folks in the Spring/Summer time as this project will finally begin to take shape. When the time comes, I will probably video blog the project stages as well as up to date steemit posts. Please go to the original post to comprehend how water methanol injection systems work.

That's pretty awesome man, hope you go ahead with this DIY project. Would be cool to see it in action. Are you going to tune for power as it will allow for more timing and other variables or are you just going to use it for safety? I've had 3 aquamist systems and a devils own setup in various cars, always been nervous to tune for power. Made power elsewhere and ran to cool down temps only after tuned.

Thanks for nice response :)
I'm tuning for power, on a diesel (not sure if petrol is the same) the extra torque comes on the down-stroke so there is no increase in potentially catastrophic cylinder pressures. That's what a guy on youtube stated anyway lol. The car already has an extra 28hp over the standard 103hp thanks to a Bluespark tuning module hooked up to the injector rail and the boost sensor. Hoping for an extra 15-20hp over what I'm already getting. Plus, the water should also steam clean the piston crowns, valves and EGR valve too :)

Hey Egg :) That does make sense what you wrote, seems very different then to conventional petrol tuning then. Super excited to see the outcome, are you going to try and do a dyno before and after :)

Thanks :)
Might try a dyno run as I could also check out how much the Bluespark box is really adding over stock power, nearest decent one (Skoda tuning specific) is Darkside Developments at Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Not cheap tho :(

I will be interested to follow how this project goes. Good luck!

Many thanks @pennsif, it'll be a slow project start in 2018 but hopefully an exciting one :)
