Steemit – a prescribed diet or a broad menu for all tastes?steemCreated with Sketch.

Let’s be honest, you want to read about what you enjoy reading about.

If your passion happens to be pot holing, the latest Inter Bank Lending Rates (LIBOR) is probably not what you are looking for.

If you live in Northern Mongolia, the 4-hour delay on the M4 near Heathrow Airport makes not one iota of difference to your life.

img

The Internet is rife with ‘pushed’ data – you are virtually told what to read.

It is my hope that Steemit puts individuality and freedom of the expression of that individuality at the heart of the development process.

Engaging’ and ‘relevant

These two words define the value of online content.

Steemit seems to have an identity crisis in addressing these two words. The capacity to become a platform of value to its subscribers will depend upon its capacity to appeal to individuals and to promote their expression of individuality.

Yes, that's the way it's going. It'd be interesting if a whale (or small team of whales) decides to specialize in one category niche and act as "patron" to encourage good content therein.

It's only a matter of time before Steemit has content that mainstream folks will want to read. In a very real sense, a low upvote/read ratio can be a good thing - if the raw read count is high. That means outside people are flooding in to read Steemit content.

At the moment, their focus is to intravote and retain the power of controlling 90% of the votes - any broadening of any kind makes this harder to manage.
The raw read count is great - another tool might be a report saying who voted for your posts, auto or otherwise.
Recommending Steemit right now has to be nestled in a lot of explanations!

I was listening to the radio a couple of days ago and they were interviewing a major blogger and his advice was that no matter what you want to blog about start by finding a related niche and conquer that first then you can gradually widen your scope.

Many thanks, @thecryptofiend , I am grateful for your comment. Having worked in the digital space, the rules which determine success are similar but different enough. The offline antics off vested interests tend to be virtually congruent, their online disregard for the rules is very funny indeed. I heard about the Russian spin-off recently - there will be simple wordpress and simpler monetary systems along quicker than a rat up a drain-pipe!
I thought your gun post today was terrific - the traffic seemed to agree!
Meantime, I have been ostracised again and watch with interest as to who does what - I hope for common sense, but you know what they say about that!

You're welcome:) Yes we will likely have all kinds of copies particularly as we get more successful.

What happened?

I suggested that the proposal to raise rewards by 10 or 100 times, as was mooted, would, in real terms heighten the power advantage of the likes of some of the whales who exercise intra-voting strategies in a way which is understandable as a strategy, given the system but contrary to the health of the platform's health at large.
The ones of whom I speak have exercised their right to remove any vote for any post of mine. Worse than any unelected Washington power elite whom they vilify!

I must have missed that.
