Original content vs resteeming

It's difficult to find my rhythm on Steemit, but I think I am working it out.

My favourite social platform until now has been Twitter (@DrWom) and I still really like it. But it has a very different rhythm than Steemit. ReTweeting is a totally legitimate way to tweet, and together with the original tweets you do, it somehow helps to define you and attract followers.

But now I've had a chance to settle in at Steemit (get my feet under the desk - as one of my favourite former bosses put it), I think that is how I have been approaching Steemit.

At this point I should acknowledge @scooter77 who warned me against resteeming too much - he likened it to spam.

I took that to mean that for those of us who think we have something original to contribute, if we resteem everything we like we will make it really difficult for those fellow steemers who are looking for authenticity, for our authenticity, to find it.

I am really grateful to have learnt that so early.

So I am going to aim at a 2:1 ratio, original content to resteem. It will mean that I will have to restrain myself (discipline!) and only resteem things that are totally awesome.

I think it's important for me to say here, though, that I think curating is a totally legitimate thing to do on Steemit - it's just not what I want to do. I don't want it to define my presence here.

My other issue is being too generous with my upvotes - again it's the twitterer in me.

But that's a discussion for another time.

Stay tuned!

Thanks @minnowbooster
That'll learn me :-)

We don't discourage selfgoats but we will display them as such 😜🐐

Yep. Got that :-)

Well, it is very wise of you to re-evaluate your approach according to your goals. :)

I agree with you, sometimes I get frustrated when I visit someone's profile trying to get to know more about them, only to find one or two original posts buried under dozens of resteems of all sorts of random stuff... I want to know what makes YOU unique, instead of having a mini-version of what your feed looks like.

Cheers for original content!

Thanks @Irime
It seems to be working so far too - with the unexpected benefit that it's making me be more creative and actually write!
:-)

I think that's a good approach,I find myself also tempted to resteem every post under the sun.

Cheers

It's too easy isn't it!
Resist! - Except for this post hahaha ;-)

Hi mate, I know all too well where you're coming from. Like most tweeps, I ride the like/love and retweet buttons like there's no tomorrow. Just doesn't work here though!

No
I have to be strong!

I went on there this morning to DM some people and quickly got caught up in my feed and nearly got in an argument with a touchy trader. Ended up just DMing the person I needed to speak to my phone number and shutting it down lol

hahaha - so easy to do

It's like steemit has a third dimension to play in that Twitter just doesn't (and don't even think about Facebook!)
