"From Nothing To Facebook Killer in Two Years"? Questions about the Future of Steemit.

Watching the Dollar Vigilante's latest VLOG post "Steem Hard Forks & Now People Are Making Even More Money on the Blockchain Based Social Network" and hearing him discuss how Steemit could go "...from nothing to Facebook killer in two years," I had to think of a post by FaceLikeTheSun, quoting Ivan on Tech (Timestamp 3:29-4:21), who briefly and succinctly described what a blockchain social media site could do to truly topple "traditional" social media platforms.

As Ivan points out, sites like Facebook and Youtube are parasitical middlemen between content producers and advertisers. A blockchain social media site with the ability to directly host content could enable content producers to work directly with advertisers. Ivan describes this "toppling mechanism" with reference to an Ethereum-based platform, but I don't see why it couldn't be implemented on Steemit.

This seems to me a possible one-two punch that would also help 1) address the question many doubters have about the value of Steem as a cryptocurrency while also 2) facilitating a massive exodus of independent content producers from Youtube to Steemit. Is anything along these lines in the works?

As to toppling Facebook: As far as I can tell, the functionality of FB is the only thing that really keeps it alive, and that in spite of its invasive "privacy" policy, social engineering propaganda and overt censorship. If users had a reasonable facsimile of that functionality on Steemit, it would be a great incentive to get them to move en masse to where they could earn Steem for doing the exact same things. The basic functions - in my opinion - would be private messaging, password-protected posting, an "inner circle" friends' list and a calendar. Is anything like this on the drawing board for Steemit?

I do think a blockchain social media site dedicated to free speech, anti-censorship and fair dealings will destroy traditional social media. I hope it will be Steemit!

So what do you think? Is there anything else that could be done to make Steemit the surefire Facebook/Youtube killer? Do you know of any steps that are happening behind the scenes now to make it happen?
