Steemit has gone Open-Source! Hoorah!
As time continues to passes, and Steemit develops into more wide spread use (nearly 18,000 users, when it was closer to 7,500 last week!), more and more of my concerns about the platform have faded.
It's easy to forget that Steemit is in still quite early in the game, and as it remains in beta.
This means that new features are constantly being added, and the latest of which is the availability of it's Open-Source code! This will allow for tinkering, by developers, to bring even more accessibility, scrutiny of code, and creation of new apps that will work for/with Steemit!
This is huge NEWS.
I'm ever more faithful in trusting Steemit as a good store of value for a long-term investment vehicle, with the way that they handled the site-intrusion two weeks ago. All accounts have been fully refunded, increased security and password reset options have been implemented, and we continue to grow at a staggering pace.
With Open-Source, people will surely develop new ways to access this blockchain, and to ensure that YOU have access to your funds when you need them- something that been my biggest concern, with the website occasionally going down and causing nerves to raise. Cyber security will always be an issue, but the more eyes that are looking and developing with the same open code, the better!
Much bigger things, we can rightly safely assume, are headed our way from here out. Things beyond what we had imagined previously for Steemit...and I think that's being conservative :)
Thanks @Ned and @Dan , and EVERYONE who helped this to become a possibility.
Your transparancy and continued commitment to your community are actually making us a family.

So are you saying we are all part of the first 18.000 users ???
I can't wait for everyone start using steemit and I can be that guy that is always like "Yeah I was on steemit before it was cool"
Hey crypt0 I have been watching some of your youtube videos over the last 3 weeks and have enjoyed them

I think the site clearly has a lot of potential and it is very worth it to spend time and post here. Those with more faith will buy Steem, but the store of value aspect is definitely very questionable in my mind still. Locking into Steem power is a way to show you believe that, but I personally do not feel comfortable with that. 2 years is so long in the crypto-world. I mean just look how much Ethereum has changed in 2 WEEKS.
On to a topic from a previous video of yours (that I only bring up here since this is your most recent post). So you are fasting. I don't know why, but I do know that fasting can be great for your health especially intermittent fasting which is something I do. Since August of 2013 I have been fasting at least 20 hours ever day. Yes every single day since August of 2013. I am now up to at least 22 hours a day. I only drink water during my fasts (it is the only liquid I drink anyway). One aspect of a fast is that you do not want your digestive system (and other systems in the body) working at all so you have to make sure you put nothing else in your body but water. I regularly workout and run 6+ miles in a fasted state. I am very used to it. I am good with will power. Since April I have added a new twist to my regime where once a month i fast for at least 41 hours straight. It is easier to do this on a travel day. Everything I just mentioned is not for everyone so I am not recommending exactly what I do. I have wanted to write a post about my full health regime (it goes way beyond fasting), but I have not gotten around to it.
Wow, I hadn't realized this was something that you, or anyone in the small crypto-community, had dedicated any interest into. You are way above any novice level at this, so you should definitely consider doing a post on your experiences. I'll gladly support that post, and would love to hear what kind of experiences, pros, and cons, and more, that you can personally attest to be through, from your subjective and first-hand account.
No wonder you get all the cool ideas for vids- no gunk in your mind and body!
Cheers, and thanks for the comment. I agree fully.
I agree the things can change so fast in crypto. 6 months is an eternity. The Etherium stuff situation is changing every 2 hours it seems like. But I'm gaining more confidence in the platform as well even though my payouts the last 3 days have been terrible. In my mind the follow button is the most important thing that needs to work right now. So when a post is deployed the followers will know real time and be able to upvote.

I fully believe in this platform and I am setting myself up for the future if it.
Getting the entire platform to be open source is such a huge success in my eyes. It's great that we can expose the source code to the best and brightest on github, and who knows? Maybe it'll make the platform better than we can even imagine!
Absolutely! There're no if's and but's aboutit- making this open-source was such a forward-thinking and huge gift to the community. This thing is getting better and better.
круто))
I think it is just amazing how fast the developments and improvements have been churning out.
This is rad - any plans for Java support?
