I Helped Get my Uber Driver in Vegas on Steemit! // We are Steemit's Best Brand Ambassadors
Hey Guys!
I ended up taking a lot of Uber rides while in Vegas for the Steem Creator's Conference and they would all ask me and my sister @maryjaney why we were in Vegas. When I mentioned we were here for a Cryptocurrency Conference - we got a lot of blank looks. Most people had no idea what cryptocurrency was and had never even heard of Bitcoin.
This honestly kind of surprised me. I know that we are still on the bleeding edge of things - but I thought more people had at least heard the word before. After all, it has been all over the news lately. There were definitely a few Uber driver's that got passionate explanations from me!
My very last Uber ride to the airport ended up being a really cool experience. We started out with the usual speel of saying that we were in town for a cryptocurrency conference and she LIT UP. She said that she had been reading all about it lately and had just started investing in Bitcoin and Ethereum. She had a TON of questions and we had an amazing discussion in our 15-20 minute Uber drive to the airport where I was able to help answer her questions.
As we neared the airport, she mentioned that one of the most difficult things was that she wanted to invest more, but didn't have a lot of extra money every month to build her portfolio. This is where we started talking about Steemit and how she could actually earn cryptocurrency by posting content. We talked about all the different ways she could participate, from writing blog posts, to sharing photos on @steepshot, to posting videos on @dtube or live streaming on @dlive.
She was ecstatic.
I ended up writing down a bunch of information for her - including the Steemit website, our usernames, and my personal email address. I offered to walk her through the process and answer any questions she had getting started out.
I really hope that I hear from her and she decides to sign up. You wanna know the great thing though? Even if she doesn't right away, she just had a super positive experience about Steemit and cryptocurrencies in general. I was able to talk her through a lot of her fears about the volatile market and increase her confidence in blockchain technology.
We are the Best Brand Ambassadors For Steemit
During the Q&A segment of my presentation at the Steem Creators Conference - watch it HERE - someone asked me how we can get more "non-crypto" content creators on the platform. My response was not some huge marketing strategy or billboards - but reaching out to the people around us. We all know people who are already creating content for places like Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Word of mouth is one of the best forms of advertising, and they are way more likely to get involved in the platform if they already know someone who is here and can help them navigate the space.
I hope this story encourages us to take it one step further as well. Don't just be willing to reach out to the people in your life - but be open to discussing it with random people you meet - like your Uber driver! You never know how you will be able to impact them.
Steemit can literally change lives, and by just being willing to talk about it - you never know who you will impact. Maybe that Uber driver will start using the platform and earn enough from posting that she doesn't have to be so stressed about her daily finances anymore.
Work on your "Steemit Elevator Pitch"
You never know when the opportunity to share the Power of Steem will come up - so be ready for it! Have an explanation prepared - and then be willing to step in and help that person out! You don't all have to give out her personal email addresses to random people like I did, but just be willing to engage in the conversation if they are interested.

I seriously just talked to my Lyft driver about Steemit this morning. We are living in bizzaro world.
You’re spot on. I have an artist friend who was really interested in Steemit. I promised to set him up with an account to get him started so this is a nice reminder to do that.
Well done on getting the word out there! I’d also love to see a conference like that in Australia. The Aussie community is quite large so I’m sure we could if we got together to organise it. :)

I'd also be surprised if something like this happens, Las Vegas seems like such an advanced place, I don't understand how they don't know about cryptomittals, or how they only know about the coins of the big lolol casinos.
I believe that my experience in steemit is the best propaganda, it has changed my life, my objectives, my activities and my way of seeing many things, I have tried to involve many in the platform, in fact most of my friends are here, I spent a lot of time teaching them how little I know and I always tell them how important education and respect for everyone is, only then will you get support to grow, I think the great majority followed in my footsteps, so I feel satisfied to get more people together, thank you for sharing this story, happy night. I'm new on Steemit, but I'm really excited. I'm learning every day, getting lots of knowledge from the amazing people of this community. I have very talented friends doing boring jobs and merely surviving. I'm talking to them, maybe they join one day and discover, that the world is changing and that we all can change our live doing the things we love embracing new technologies like Steemit. I took me a while, since I first heard from Steemit until I started. We are living very interesting times. Thanks for your post. I wish you a great life.

Sometimes we forget how early we are as adopters of the blockchain technology, myself included. Thanks for reminding us that we should remind ourselves that our interactions on steemit are very cutting edge, and of course, we get discouraged by whales who got in several years earlier than us, but I think the takeaway is that we can get invested and get involved ASAP. We're still in the very early days, and come mass adoption, I believe there's gonna be a massive revolution.
