Why did Dan Larimer leave Steem? Also why is the Wikipedia page for steem so negative?

in #steemit7 years ago

Hi steemers!

So recently I gave myself a mild bout of FUD when I found out that Dan Larmier left Steem. If you don't know who Dan is he creates next generation block-chains and is currently developing the mighty EOS and developed Bitshares. So when I heard he resigned in March of this year (2017) I thought "oh no maybe he didn't like where the project was going". BUT FEAR NOT!

I watched a YouTube video today in which TheAnarchast YouTube channel interviewed Dan (found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=45&v=8e0tinzPTbY). In the aforementioned piece Dan clearly states that he left the project because the block-chain had reached maturity and that, as a block-chain programmer, he didn't need to do any more work. So I felt a wave of relief.

He finished his work on Steem and moved on to EOS. So there were no bust up or hard feelings, Dan simply finished his work with Steem and moved on leaving it to others to market and promote, jobs you don't need a block-chain developer to do.

On a side note:

Now whilst researching I found an unpleasant surprise. The Steemit page on wikipedia. Here is an extract:

" While a novel concept it has opened the doors for widespread community abuse, fraud and the extortion of lesser members by wealthier members possessing the site reputation and money to control and censure content at will. The decentralized concept of STeemit is currently failing in many regards due to uneven wealth distribution, no moderation, no polices or governance and the fact that that the wealthier members are granted unrestricted power to dictate policy at will and extort lower income members of the site. The decentralized nature of Steemit and lack of strict moderation have also led to instances of child pornography[4] being uploaded to the site."

I'm really shocked by this blatant smearing of steem. It's a negative and biased write up that really should be challenged. I will set up a wikipedia account today and start to edit and explain the positive aspects of steem to counter balance a lot of these claims.

Thanks for reading

Matt

I had no idea. Well done for taking the initiative on this.

good of you to call attention to this, because it may turn up as something if people search google for what is steemit and we don't want them reading such negative things!

Thank you for bringing us closer to Mr. Dan personality. I was not very familiar with him, but I will look for him to get to know him. Thank you for taking the initiative. I would like to thank you for your initiative Which you will do in wikippedia . Thanks for your help on the platform steemit . You have a thousand greetings I wish to be the next sweeter to the platform and for you .

What is this crap -- while on a side note I found this bit on Wikipedia -- I looked at wikipedia and I did not see what you saw. Is this suppose to be a back handed hit piece??? Once again MATT, you have reminded me always always always do your own research and never trust anyone that u don't know; especially when it comes to opinions. So let everyone be warned.

That's what it said at the time i posted - copied and pasted. I got in touch with jerry banfield about it and it was edited. Didn't you know Wikipedia can be edited? Silly person. Muted.
