Communities: A game changer for SteemitsteemCreated with Sketch.

I couldn't be more excited for a feature than I am for sub-communities. Just imagine -- moderating your own sub with the option to run it as a business -- signing up influencers from your niche and earning STEEM from all the great content that comes through your channel. I have a feeling this feature is going to be a key driver for growth - and we are aiming to get it out soon: by the end of q2.

Right now, I see a lot of posts on my Steemit front page, the subjects vary from culinary arts to cryptocurrency trading advice. And even though we have #tags, wouldn't be more organized if we could go to our own sub-communities where we can talk about the stuff that is important to us?

The decision to create sub-communities in steemit will not only help us go directly to the subjects that we are interested in, it will also help the viral growth of the platform. Users will have an incentive to grow their own communities as they will be rewarded for doing so. I can already imagine some great sub-communities emerging in steemit, they could be:

  • Country oriented: steemit.com/c/argentina
  • Sports oriented: steemit.com/c/nba
  • Tech oriented: steemit.com/c/raspberry_pi
  • Meme oriented: steemit.com/c/memes
  • Etc...Etc..Etc

There are a lot of positives changes coming to Steemit but, like @ned, the Community feature is definitely the one I am most excited about.

P.S. I will also be upgrading my witness node to version 0.19.0, as I believe improving the rewards curve is essential to Steemit success.

That is pretty exciting. The possibilities really are endless! :)

Totally agree!

I really like this idea a looot!
I also enjoy that posts becoming a bit more simple, so the authors enjoy creating their articles without being scared they might not be valuable or good enough.

Yeah I can imagine myself going to a the GIF sub-community and posting funny stuff just for the Lulz , it would be refreshing when you get that writers block!

Oh I just realized I voted for you to be my witness. Good job! 🌺

Thanks! I have been reading your stuff for quite a while now :)

Do you ? Wow ! Thanks much to value my "stuff" haha

well I do spend quite a lot of time in Steemit and you were one of the first ones here too..

Yeah stuff means: posts, videos, pics, resteems, etc! haha

So, I made the right decision to choose you to be my witness . The intuition of a woman 🙄💅 Dont we love that steemit addiction:) have a wonderful weekend!

That's what I mean. Sometimes I just get dizzy and need some music, memes and easy laughs. So It all depends on our mood what community we would choose to land. Fantastic idea !

I'm awaiting more details to see how it will play out before being excited, the idea itself seems good.

true... I think I like getting excited about new stuff tho hehe

Wow, that's right, it would be greatly rewarded since it would concentrate a greater relevant and authentic participation on a specific subject by means of which we would learn of amazing things since steemit I have managed to see a lot of very good and unique information, I love it! :)

I think it will be attractive to new visitors to see some top posts on the topics they want. Improve the number of eyes hitting quality posts = better retention

I haven't seen much information about exactly how the community feature is going to be implemented. I worry with moderation, community problems can result in situations like the /r/btc and /r/bitcoin debate.

The communities should include features that allow users to find popular posts from the past (especially where voting is still open). This would make well written posts more visible to newcomers. As of now, the hot pages are filled with bot-upvoted junk. A best of the week in the community a new user is interested in is exactly the type of content that could get them hooked. Features like this are really important when the community is small and ther is not enough quality content to fill all the pages.

what a reddit-like feature :) exciting!

I hope they strike the right balance between moderation and censorship. Steem was meant to be free speech platform after all!

Follow/Mute TAGS

That does seem like a good feature! Looking forward to it!
