The hidden gem of the new Promote feature
A quick observation on the new promote feature: @null's transfers page seems to be a better source of information than the promoted listing to me.
Not only you can tell first hand what's being promoted (before it goes popular), but you can see who's promoting their own posts and who's promoting someone else's, presumably a sign of appreciation of really good content.
Will you keep an eye there?
@burnin alternatively they might promote it if they think it is going to trend and want to make sure they maximize curation rewards.

I'm not sure that the transfer history shows everything, although so far they're the same. Or maybe it does, as long as the transfer was done after the update that allows your to see history on steemit. Doesn't seem to display all of mine though.
You have to click on each one to see if they are promoting someone else though right... I like the idea of users promoting other users posts just to give them more value than what they can with an up-vote. :)
Not really. There's no link to the post, which is unfortunate, but the second column is the amount promoted and who did it and the third is the post (which starts with the author username) so it's easy to to compare the second column to the third and see if its self promotion or not.
This is what I've been using when upvoting promoted content. I think $50 is a lot to promote some posts with, but sometimes I give them the vote if they did not promote it themselves. I also try to skip all the way down the list to the lesser promoted things to find those undiscovered users who don't already have $D to throw away.
