I've never seen a sketchier and dirtier city in Europe than Athens. Almost all of the places are covered in graffiti. The central neighbourhood I stayed in for a week (Metaxourghio) had several brothels and junkies injecting themselves at any hour of the day. Nonetheless, I actually enjoyed the place and would go back again. I love squats, and the city felt like a big squat to me :)
