Steemit - A crypto rocket with an actual payload

in #steemit7 years ago

Space travel (officially) hasn't advanced very far in the past century due to the cost of getting weight up into the atmosphere.

Gravity is a bitch and getting things off the ground requires tremendous energy. That expense of energy necessarily requires a point, beyond flying in the air for a bit and falling to the ground eventually (why bottlerockets are cheap).

Looking at the cryptocurrency top 10 list, I realized an analogy -- only a few cryptocurrencies appear to have a payload worth getting into orbit.

I argue Steem is one of those.

Follow along for a moment...

  • Bitcoin is the main drive chain providing access to applied force to all other cryptocurrencies, via exchanges and supply/demand
  • Ethereum provides a payload based on the promise of smart contracts and the flexibility/security that can and will provide commerce and governments in the future.
  • Monero, ZCash and provide a payload that allows crypto users access to provable privacy, something that is also in demand (and will undoubtedly continue to be)
  • BitShares appears to be acting as a tether bridge to things like Steem and EOS in the future

This may anger some super fans, and I'm certain there are use cases that I've missed, but I don't see much else on the immediate horizon as far as use cases go in crypto.

Steem Payload Value Proposition - Why This Rocket is Worth Launching

  • Simple account names versus complex addresses in crypto competition
  • Less friction in adoption from current social media users
  • Rapidly Growing user base generating critical mass and defending against competition eating market share
  • Stable platform allowing for rapid transactions at essentially zero cost
  • Censorship resistance and virtual permanent storage in an age where Facebook and Twitter have become Orwellian Thought Police

Conclusion

The trajectory of this platform bears out my analysis, and barring some catastrophic failure, I see no reason for it to change in the immediate future. I made these arguments against Bitcoin Maximalist Tone Vays a year ago, and (after the inflation change), my arguments stand as valid then as they did now.

I've already staked my reputation on this position and will continue to do so. Steem on.

Steemit is the current bastion of creativity, freedom of speech, ideas, technology and intelligence above all. It's a truth that FB and Twitter will become more censored as time passes by, so we will have Steemit as a free expression uncontrolled tool.

FIRE IT OUT!

BOOOOM! Fantastic post, I couldn't agree more. Steem/Steemit have a lot going for them and this is one of the few cryptocurrencies that is really innovative and has unique features that are actually useful and important

what do you say to the statement that steemit is a scam?

not saying that's what I believe but i'm searching for an answer that sits well in my stomach

I've yet to hear a competent response (technical or otherwise) that steemit is a 'scam' .

Key point: it requires a definition of what a 'scam' is .. even that can be subjective to a degree

I define a scam in cryptocurrency as OneCoin specifically because they don't have a reviewable blockchain (Steem does) and you can't find their code repo on GitHub (you can with Steemit).

all that aside, shit doesn't survive long in this realm without heavy scrutiny. steem has undergone it. keep learning and do your own homework.

Nice to see you posting again

glad to be back. my brain is back in the 'writing' mode again :D

The best part is to get paid for things which you already love to do and on top of that you get the chance to make never ending connections

The biggest attractor by far is the fact that u can "earn" Steem. No need to buy expensive mining equipment or invest tons of capital. In the future this aspect will separate the winners from the losers in the crypto space.

I agree with this. Steemit has been the best social media I have ever been on and if they move anywhere the value of Facebook or Twitter, everyone will be happy and wealthy.

Demonstration of a satisfied user, within minutes :)

Yep, very satisfied. Do you think Steemit will make any changes when it moves out of beta mode?

id say the basic structure (particularly after the inflation change) is set in stone. the blockchain will remain a constant. now we're entering the phase where new use cases can be built on top of the existing infrastructure. this is very important, particularly with video and data storage.

I think the core of witnesses and the core user community are comfortable with the trajectory. I haven't been totally focused in the past few months (more recently) but I haven't noticed much arguing over structure like I remembered late last year.

Much more growth and adoption oriented at this point. Just an observation of momentum shift.

edit: great question btw

Monero and Zcash are very interesting for a lot o people, some countries the black economy is more then 80%, This coins are very interesting. A lot of peolple talk about ETH but for me Zcash is a silent actor.

after researching the dark web, its hard to discount the reality of the privacy value proposition.

Let's make steemit a great community and get on the rocket ;)
