Steem for Life
Steemit, the flagship application for Steem and the Steemchain. How would you feel if it ceased to exist tomorrow? I was thinking about this and I realised that Steemit and Steem were already far more important to me than I had previously acknowledged....even to myself.
Think about the social media landscape that currently overlays the internet, Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, Youtube, Google, Whatsapp and the rest. All centrally controlled, all mining and exploiting the data we create, all undermining our privacy and all engaged in censorship to one degree or another. These trends are all escalating at a time where the advertising model is being questioned due to poor sales and user engagement is dropping precipitously. Steemit is the only platform capable of becoming more whilst the rest become less. At this stage, even the other blockchain competitors are very far from establishing technical viability or significant user adoption.
Take Steemit away and it is a rather barren and hopeless landscape that remains.
Steemit and the Steemchain has offered us a chance to earn a direct return on our productivity, to earn a reputation within a community founded upon and guarded by resilient integrity and to maintain a stake in all the potential yet to come. How many of us truly grasp the enormity of that accomplishment?
Understandably we post about our concerns for the Steem price and for user retention. Identifying issues, striving for solutions and constantly innovating is a superb state to be in. It's the difference between success and failure, as has been demonstrated time and again. However, when judging Steemit's present state, let's remember that users were bound to come and go initially. Steemit, Steem, the Steemchain are difficult concepts to wrap your head around at the best of times but people get there with a bit of time, help and encouragement. They will be back. Steemit is currently more suited to a certain type of content producer, that will change to a degree and other applications are being developed that will address other use cases. They will be back. When you fall in love with the idea of Steemit and Steem, there's no going back, only forward. They will be back for good.
The free to publish, no-border transactions, no censorship, heart of integrity Steemchain can and will bind us together in ways that we can't yet imagine and it will change this world forever.
Price? Is that a joke? You might as well put a price on life because that is what it amounts to. Some do put a price on life and boy is it cheap in their eyes. Not in mine though. Every life is infinitely precious and even today, so is Steem.
