Just a game? Or just for profit?

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I have been active for over a year now, and I see a correlation to success and making money. Personally I have found my motivation go down when STEEM goes from $0.17 - $3.00 back to $1.00 etc..

Up and Down, Up and Down

I have personally seen my motivation go up when STEEM price rises. What do I do? I get on the platform and start writing. It would seem the motivation for success boils down to profit. Some of us have communities and individuals that matter, but in the end I ask myself would I keep posting if there is no profit?

I think it boils down to relationships. If you are an active investor in STEEM, it boils down to ROI. That's why many dolphin's and even whales delegate their power in order to create simple dividends in a system that requires POSTING and thought. It's a double edged sword because STEEM needs active investors, but many people are not geared towards posting.

In order to create some kind of balance, I at least feel I have made some interesting connections with steemians. They give me a reason to keep coming back and interact. I have built up enough STEEM power that I could delegate whatever I have got to just produce free STEEM. I would rather not do that because I enjoy the experience and interactions. This is probably why true organic growth on the platform will stagnate. I think this is also why SMT and Communities will be important for the future of this platform.

We shall see what the future holds, but I guarantee whenever STEEM goes up in price, you will see many people posting MORE, COMMENTING MORE. The main motivation is GETTING PAID. After all, that is what is on the homepage of steemit. Yes this is a quick post JUST to stay active. I don't feel the motivation as much because I have so much other stuff doing, and the price keeps sinking. I have to tell myself that many Steemians stuck it out when it was only worth $0.16 cents. Now that's something to think about. That's less than one upvote from me.

I also like to keep in mind that when steem goes down, you make more steem for each post. If steem is $2, you get 5 steem on a $10 payout. But if steem was $1, you'll get 10 steem. When steem was at $0.08, it was possible to get a few hundred steem for a $10-20 payout. Short term it's discouraging, but long term it's great to have steem at a low price right now if you want to accumulate more.

So true!!! I love being on here high or low!

just stay HIGH ;)

I just want to say exactly the same thing, but you explained it so good that I'll give you just an upvote.

great point! I had no idea you make more STEEM when the price is lower. Thanks for that interesting tid-bit

You're welcome. The only thing is everyone's vote is worth less, but I don't see the payouts declining at the same rate as steem right now so it's all good to see the price drop for a little while in my opinion. It will rise again in no time.

I only have a few cents to offer. I come back even though a few cents aren't worth much these days.. so you do the math ;oP

I'm not leaving for a while. I have gotten used to the corny-ideals on this platform. It is what it is.

@bearbear613 when I firstly joined Steemit, I wanted to just make money but as time goes on, right from the effort of working and not getting a better payout, I was discouraged since all boils down to SP. Now dolphins complains about the worth of steem...though, everyone of us aren't here to play but what is most important here so as to having a long term profits and not getting discouraged is to enjoy Steemians themselves. If we all add value to one another, we won't get tired of the platform.

Facebook had over 2 billion users today and those users are not paid. Yet, many are addicted to Facebook simply because they enjoy it. They see posts of families, friends and meet new people. If we can also make people's relationship our top notch here, whether STEEM value is $0.16 or $50, we won't get tired of it.

Your post motivates me
Thanks you

I congratulate you sirbearbear because you are still posting in the middle of your moving situation, that's a crazy admirable work ethic. Unless you're just addicted to us!

I'm at work right now and I have some liberty. Don't know what 2 years from now will be though.

I think you'll still be addicted to us!

Sometimes I feel discouraged when I post and don't get up votes or comments and I see the value dropping but there are other spin offs like the friends that I have made on the platform and there are many interesting articles and during the time I have been on steemit I have learnt so many things and visited so many places through photographs. So I just keep plodding along and hope that one day the value will soar .

Buy in low sell on high 😹
